WTF

Me...
that's who...

I cannot believe that in a few days I will be 50 years old.
How the hell did that happen?
I know getting older beats the alternative.
I know that too many are 'denied' the 'privilege' of getting older.
But still...

I hated turning 'middle-aged'.
But now, I am on the other side of middle-aged unless I live to be 100+.
So being middle-aged doesn't seem so bad to me now.

I am trying hard to remember....what?...ummm...oh yea...
that 'Fifty is the new Forty'.

OK.

Though technically, I'm much better at 50 than I was at 40.

Things I can do at 50 that I couldn't do at 40:

  • Jog 5 km (average 4 days/week)
  • Walk 10,000 steps (or more) a day
  • Care less what people think of me
  • Speak my mind more
  • Give myself more 'me' time

And how am I spending my birthday week?
  • 2 weeks off work
  • Reflexology & Reiki appointments
  • Lunch dates with friends
  • Shopping trip to Calgary
  • Trip to the Calgary Zoo
  • Booking of hotel/flights to Victoria for our summer trip
  • Packing away my winter clothes
  • Getting behind my camera
  • Getting into my craft room
  • And there will be movies and snoozes as well...  :)

So I guess here comes 50 - ready or not...

Dearest Catherine,
Happy upcoming 50th on the 5th! You are still lagging 14 years behind so don't give up; there is life after 50 and plenty of it!
Love your points # 3, # 4 and # 5. Great attitude.

Happy Birthday to YOU! It sounds like you have some wonderful plans to celebrate you. :) and you should....

It's not so bad being 50. I just find that body parts just stop working one day....but they may or may not work the next...so it's so of exciting to see what comes up with each day. I like the peace of mind that comes with 50.

So you're off to Calgary are you... sure hope all the mild weather you and Alberta have had last month returns again in time for your trip. Check out the penguins while you're at the zoo.
Enjoy yourself Hun.

Awww glad to see you back. Happy happy 50th birthday to you, Catherine! All these things you can do at 50 and couldn't at 40 are amazing. I can never jog for 5km..haha. And sounds like your birthday week will be lots of fun! I hope you'll have a wonderful time!
I was sort of scared of becoming middle-aged when I was 20s, but now I don't mind much. I think we can be great at any age :-)

Happy birthday. I turned 49 last week and told someone that maybe I would feel like an adult when I turn 50 next year. Ha! My youngest son tells me I'm old. Don't we always think our parents are old when we are young? He asked me what I thought was old age and I told him 85. :) the older you get, the more you have to push that number back. Ha! Best wishes, Tammy

Happy birthday!
Let me interject a little bit of wisdom...I only wish I was at 50 again!
Count your blessings, when I was in my 50's I traveled the world solo for three years! You would be amazed at what you can do!
When you are in your 60's, 50 seems like a distant memory...

Good for you for looking at the positive. Age is all relative they say, and I agree, it's only a number, a recording of days, of years. But it's not a record of how much we have accomplished, loved, or created.

Happy Birthday to you!!!

Jen
