Stick a Bow on It

As 2015 draws to a close,
I'm somewhat glad to wrap up this year,
with thick paper
lots of tape
stick a bow on it
and tuck it away.

It was a hard one
with many lessons learned.

I say good-bye to it
with bittersweet memories of
good and bad.

But I look forward to 2016.

a new outlook.
a new direction.

Happy New Year to you!

House Cleaning Rules

There is something very gratifying to have
woken up early on a Saturday morning,
blast the Christmas tunes, sing and dance, while
spending a few hours cleaning all those things
you've been meaning to clean for months.

{How does all that gunk get into the utensil drawer? Does no
one but me know how to empty out the toaster crumb tray? What
is that growing under the kitchen sink? I wonder if this is still
edible 8 months past the 'best before' date?  When the hell did we get a
2nd cat or is that just all my hair on the bathroom floor?...

Dishwasher emptied.
Floors vacuumed.
Furniture dusted.
Towels washed, dried, folded, but away.
2nd course for my Corporate Wellness Certificate 1/2 done.
(Wrote my 1st exam last Tuesday night - passed!  woot woot!)
New record set for jogging 7k (54 minutes!)
Bathed, hair washed, dressed for the day...
and it is 11:42 am.

Nothing left to do but kick back and relax the
rest of the day and all day Sunday.
Monday off?  Bonus!!!

the toilet brush is NEVER the microphone."

Keep It Merry

2016 is breathing down our necks...
can you feel it?

Another year slipping by.

I am currently working on obtaining a
Corporate Wellness Certificate.
I am really enjoying the classes.
It is keeping my mind busy and focused.

I will be writing an exam before Christmas.
I haven't written an exam for a couple of years.

We all have the power to help mould our own future.

I turn 51 in a few months.
I'm still learning and growing.
The pressure of time going too fast,
the stress of daily life,
the thought that the future is unknown,
must not stop me.

Most of us usually find ourselves busy and stressed
during the month of December.

Let us all try to:

Keep It Merry!

It Gets Here Eventually

Bitter winds blew yesterday - it was most assuredly a 'toque' day.  But I shall be thankful we only have a wisp of snow and that there is above seasonable temperatures forecasted into the month of December.  A brown Christmas?  I do not have a problem with it.  In fact, I welcome it!

Sunday, November 15, 2015

I'll take me some of that!

It's November 15 and although we had a dump of snow the other day, I am thankful that it did not stick around very long.  Green grass is still in our yard, along with the hardiest of weeds.  Where do those weeds find their strength from? They are unwanted, unloved, mowed down, pulled and poisoned.  And yet, they are the last to leave us in the winter and the first to appear in the spring.

Oh to have the endurance of a weed...

endurance...the ability to continue despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions.

Always The Right Time To Be Thankful

Canadian Thanksgiving is long over, but it is always the right time to stop and be thankful:

  • Thankful to have today off
  • Thankful we still have no snow
  • Thankful that it was nice enough outside for me to go jogging this morning (ok, I had to wear micro-mittens, but still...)
  • Thankful to spend the afternoon drinking tea, coloring and crafting
  • Thankful to be part of the most awesome team anyone could ever wish to work with (love you my peeps!)
  • Thankful for homemade pizza and movie night tonight with my boys

Wishing all of you a most wonderful weekend full of many things to be THANKFUL for.

It was a wonderful day.

All That Anticipation

Vacation recap:

Mornings were spent sitting out
on our hotel room deck drinking tea.

Even if it rained, due to a glass overhang
we were able to still sit outside.

If you got a little chilled while eating or drinking outside?
There were always complementary blankets and
heaters at most restaurants.

Catherine Street  :)

Sunday was my most favorite day.
I hope to never take for granted the fact that I
have a husband who humours me.

First stop was Bulk Barn to buy organic oat flakes
(yes, the more expensive 'organic') and seeds
and then we spent over an hour and a half at
Beacon Hill as I wanted to feed the ducks.

And what happens when you run out of food?
Those ducks follow you.
Right past Stanley.
They knew who the supplier was....
I didn't want to leave the squirrels out.
But they were not as agreeable to
eat out of my hand like the ducks.
Maybe they wanted nuts rather than seeds.

Then another hour and a half sitting on a beach
searching for pretty rocks and sea glass
of which both were plentiful.

There were a few refreshing beverages consumed.

So many wonderful restaurants to try
and excellent food to eat!

Luckily, we walked lots too!

We lucked out with the weather and had
3 very hot days
1 cool but nice day
1 windy day - spent in a rental car touring outer Victoria
1 rainy day - spent at the imax and shopping

And as much as we love Victoria,
we are always very happy to go home.

And home we came.

All that anticipation over holidays
and they go by in a blink.
It's hard to hang on to that feeling
of relaxation and contentment.

But I shall try.

I shall start again...

About a month ago someone told me
"You will drive yourself insane trying to
rationalize someone else's irrational actions/decisions."

It hit me like a ton of bricks.
I mean, that was my very first post for this year.
One of the things I wanted to work on.

And there I was, mid-August,
failing miserably.

Well...I shall start again.

Hello my dear readers! Yes, I am still alive and well in Southwest Saskatchewan. My boys are all fine; hubby, son and kitty included. Stanley and I just got home from our beloved Victoria where we spent a wonderful week of site seeing, walking, eating and partaking in many refreshing beverages...

I am trying to make my last 10 days of 26 days holidays stretch out to their fullest.

My blog email account seems to be locking me out - so if you have sent me emails over the last few months, I apologize on my unresponsiveness.  I hope to get it figured out soon.

I look forward to a long warm fall - predictions of El Nino for the Prairie Provinces (woot woot!) - and to continue finding ways to slow that little hamster down that constantly runs on the wheel in my brain...

All that and yet...

 On Sundays in the summer,
while Stanley is off golfing,
I often go to Riverdene Park.
There are 3 sets of stairs in the park,
and I run them.

I did a personal BEST yesterday
150 flights of stairs.

Not bad for a gal that turned 50 this year huh?

It takes an elevation of 10 feet
which is about 20 steps up
(steps down doesn't count)
to register as 1 floor on a Fitbit...

That means I climbed about 3000 steps up!

I'm nearing 20,000 lifetime floors climbed...

All that and yet
still no Buns of Steel...

What is up with that?

"I gotta work out. I keep saying it all the time. I keep saying
I gotta start working out. It's been about two months since
I've worked out. And I just don't have the time. Which odd. Because
I have the time to go out to dinner. And uh..and watch tv.. and get a
bone density test. And uh.. try to figure out what my
phone number spells in words..."  - Ellen DeGeneres

Happy August!

Best of Me, Worst of Me

Saturday afternoon
5 hours driving the back roads of Saskatchewan
just Stanley and I
(wondering why the HELL we didn't bring a bottle of water with us)
knowing that there wasn't a 'corner store' anywhere close at hand
stopping when we wanted to search for flat stones for my garden
"Stop Wayne - I think that looks like a good one!"
taking photos of seemingly nothing

pure contentment

Sunday afternoon grocery shopping
mad because I can no longer find my favorite cereal
cranky because I had to take time to read labels to find another one
pissed that I have to pay more for the organic brands

then spying a woman pushing a full grocery cart
being followed by a little girl in a wheelchair
her daughter perhaps?
going into her wallet to pull out her coupons
the little girl asking for the cereal with the cartoon character
"No sweetie, we can't afford that today."

really? was that my worst problem of the day?
having to find a new cereal to buy?

Why do we always need those 'kick in the butts'
to put our life in perspective?

Why can't we keep in mind the simple pleasures we enjoy
and make them last all week long?

Why do we get upset with the life's little crap
that gets in our way?

Why do we forget to be grateful?

"Can you see the holiness in those things you take for granted – a paved road
or a washing machine? If you concentrate on finding what is good in every situation,
you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude,
a feeling that nurtures the soul.” ~ Rabbi Harold Kushner

“If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's,
we'd grab ours back.” ~ Regina Brett
