Poked n' Prodded Poor Poor Puddy-tat

My long-weekend went awry...
an unexpected trip to the vet Friday

Banjo was poked and prodded
both ends of him violated

almost 2 hours under anesthetic
anal glands flushed
a tooth pulled out
tarter scraped
toenails clipped

too many drugs
stoned kitty...

48 hours of not leaving one spot
beside his water fountain
(does the hum of it sound like purring???)

trying to trick him to take his medication
trying to force pills down his throat
is harder on me than it is on him
futile attempts

nothing could tempt him
not yogurt
not wet food
not crunched up treats

but when you love your kitty
who is truly a member of your family
you pay the vet bill without a flinch

you buy 7 different kinds of canned food
enticing him to eat those
expensive antibiotics you paid for...

and finally your sweet kitty
starts to come around...

just in time for you to go back to work

thus ends my four day weekend

sigh...

Poor little guy, but he is so loved that you take such good care of him. Lucky little kitty!

Poor Banjo. Having teeth removed is no picnic. I'm sorry to hear he went through all that. He is so lucky to have a loving family and someone who puts all else aside to care for him when it's needed. Glad he is feeling better, Catherine. hugs, Deb

Poor little boy!!! And poor you...we had a run of sick puddies a couple of weeks ago so I (and my pocketbook) empathize completely.
Give that sweet guy a kiss from me.

Oh, poor buddy!! I'm glad he's doing better now....but when it's happening...it's HORRIBLE. And what we won't pay to have him better! A friend just sunk nearly $2000 into a 2-year old kitty with liver problems. It makes me worried, him being so young. I'm afraid to think of what is ahead for them. Yikes.

Glad Banjo is better. He sure doesn't look too good there. :(

On the bright side, it was good you had 4 days off to look after Banjo.
Now back to work so you can pay those bills.
Get well soon Banjo. XX

Poor Banjo! And I'm sorry for you too, Catherine. Not the way you envisioned your weekend at all.

Hope the week shows great improvement!

Poor Banjo, you were lucky you had the time off to cater to him. Funny how they will eat just about everything you offer them until you hide medicine in it. How do they know?

Dearest Catherine,
Oh, I know the pain... we would want to take over but can't! Hope Banjo will feel better from now on, it is tough as they don't understand what is going on with them. I always hope they don't get their trust in human love damaged.
Hugs to you!
Mariette

Oh poor Banjo. I'm so sorry he was not doing well after vet visit. It's so difficult to see our fur babies not feeling good and not eating well. But I'm so glad he got well finally!
I love the last image with lots of hearts :-)

poor sweet and oh so beautiful Banjo...sorry you had to be tortured to make you feel better. I can relate to the pill thing. today is the day Jake and Baby get their once a month pill. Baby just takes it and swallows. i have to trick Jake. break it in 4 small pieces, smear peanut butter on a slice of WHITE bread...cut in 4 strips, carefull wrap a quarter pill in each strip making sure to press down all edges. then i have to give baby a piece of anything first so Jake is jealous enough to take his pb pill... it is quiet the production. and yes they are worth it. 275 in Feb for Baby and another 275 coming up on May 5 for Jake. just glad they go at different times

Poor Banjo. :-(

If you ever need antibiotics again, and if it's Clavamox, ask for the "treat" flavoured pills. That's what I gave Nicki without problem in February -- I crushed them up and put them in his canned food, and liberally sprinkled it all with FortiFlora, which is a yummy-tasting probiotic. I think there was only one meal I couldn't get him to eat, he wasn't feeling well enough, I guess, or was being fussy.

Anyway, fingers crossed he's back to normal now...purrs from the boys!

Poor Kitty...and Poor you!! Hope he is feeling better soon!
and I LOVE the "heart bokeh" you made in that last shot! Just Awesome!

Poor Banjo. Would he eat the food if you put some tuna juice on it? The smell will usually entice even the most finicky eater. I do hope he feels better soon. I know how hard it is to leave a sick animal at home and go to work. Give him a (gentle) squeeze from me. xoxo

Brian said...

Oh no Banjo, we sure hope you are lots better pal.

Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams said...

Oh...how very heartbreaking when they won't eat. Thank goodness he did start to eat again. Nothing worse then being at work, worrying over the cat, wishing you could be there with them.

I hope that he recovers quickly, and is well and fine from now on.

How old is he now?

Jen

As for you Cat it might take several weeks right?

Oh Catherine, i'm so sorry for Banjo and for you. You're right. It is so hard on us. I would do absolutely anything for our kitties. Bills don't matter! I'm so glad he's coming around. That's an awful lot for a sweet kitty to go through. I hope on some level they understand that we take them to the vet for their own good...

I know exactly what you were going through. Everything you said is absolutely true. I'm happy is feels better. Fantastic post. Cheers!!

Poor Banjo (poor you). Glad he's a little better, sorry you couldn't stay home. Anesthesia is so hard on an older kitty. Puff needs to be clipped, but the last time he was, he was like Banjo -- stoned and hard to recover. Hope he fully recovers fast. Hugs, sweet friend.

Oh, it sounds like a bit of a scary weekend. Glad Banjo is feeling better. Guess what? I got an ipad and having lots of fun with it.

Been there done that with kitty pills. I tried the leather glove trick. That didn't work so good either. Glad things are looking up for Banjo now....:)

Oh poor Banjo! So sorry to hear that he wasn't well. But glad to know that he is doing much better now. A friend was just told that she needs to take cholesterol lowering medicine. She just turned 37. She told the doctor that no way she would take medicine. She believe in healthy eating like me and believes that we should take control of our health and our bodies and not always take medications as some doctors would have us do for every little thing. Same goes with kitties. Everyone is different and our bodies really weren't meant to have chemicals running through them. Hugs to you and Banjo, Tammy

Aww, poor Banjo! I'm sorry to hear he had to go through this, and you! It's so hard when our babies are sick! I'm glad to hear in you last post that he is better now. Big hugs to you and Banjo. Oh, that is a stunning photo at the end too with the heart bokeh!

You sweet and lovely boy. Your Mommy certainly loves you well. Tell her that if she hasn't tried them and you need pills again (we hope not) that the Greenies Pill Pockets really work. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
