Don't Regret It

  • Was bullied when she was young; learned to protect herself with her sense of humour
  • Totalled her mother's car off playing "Chicken"; has been a responsible driver ever since
  • Tried smoking one night at a party, puked her guts out; never touched another cigarette again in her life
  • Waitressed for 4 years during high-school; learned the value of a hard earned dollar and the pride of earning your own money
  • Always dreamed of being the lead singer in an all girl band; still sings into a hair brush and dances in front of a mirror when no one is home

"Don't regret your past...it has shaped you.
Don't fear your future...it is yours to shape."
~ Louise Hansen

Do you have things in your past that have shaped your future?

Gorgeous image of you!

Lots of hard lessons shaped me into who I am today -- and I'm thankful for that! Great post.

Oh now I have you pictured with your hair brush, mirror, and being "Tomasita" Cruise singing "Just Gimme that ol' time rock n roll"

I think you have built great character ~
I've always loved a good character.
Yup and ~ people often say to me too
"Oh you are quite the charter Willow !" lol

You have a beautiful smile Catherine! I wish I had never given in to peer pressure with the cigarette smoking...it took 35 years to wake up about that evil. Love the quote, and your post.

great shot of you, you are looking fantastic... i smoked a cigar, two puffs when i was 12, never touched a cigarette, talk about sick...
there is so much that made me what i am and it is all pretty much bad, so will not share it here.

What a beautiful photograph of you!
I think our past always shapes our future, but I do not believe it has to dictate it.

Have a great weekend, Catherine, and Happy Valentine's Day!

What a great post! It's often hard to accept the past when it was difficult. But you are very open about your past and let it shape you so wonderfully! You are truly my inspiration :-)

You are a beauty that's for sure, and I mean inside and out!
Still learning, something I'll have to think about. That's if I can put my brain into drive.

Ann said...

oh yes, do I ever.
Love the picture of you.

All the good...and the bad...makes us who we are. Would I trade it? Yep...all the bad stuff and the people who made/make me feel bad about myself. I can do without that. BUT...I like who I am, so I guess something went right along the way. (I'm not asking anyone else though. ;))

Loved this post, Catherine! Yes, we all have those things that made us who we are, some of mine I gladly will tell, others, not even the cat knows! (I don't tell the Goldens, they can't keep a secret!)

Lots of things! Everything! Once the entire group of girls I hung out with in high school turned against me. I racked my brain trying to figure out what I had done, and realized I hadn't done a thing. So I quit worrying about it, ignored them, and found new friends. A great lesson in friendship and valuing myself. (Within a few years, we were all friends again...and still are almost 40 years later. A valuable lesson in forgiveness.)

Most of my life I have been bossed about by cats so I think they must have shaped my life.
Any regrets I have don't involve cats. XX

I'm glad that you learned from your experiences.

Lets face it, life is a funny old thing. Just when you think you've got the hang of it,it does a 380 turn and you are upside down wondering what the heck...
On the flip side, it's those turns that make it interesting!

Love it! Oh my goodness...the stories I could tell - and I was a good girl!

I've always been told that I was no good when I was young which resulted in wanting to prove myself and now I want to excel in everything I do. Very tiring, so I'm trying to snap out of it a bit. I'm learning that sometimes it's okay not to be perfect.

My whole life has shaped me into who I am. Especially all the crazy mistakes I made from about the age of 16-34!

I was bullied too as a child. That is why I root for the underdog, and became a social worker. I had a bone to pick with this world. Wonderful post! Cheers!!

Beautiful post! Our minds can really turn things around. Instead of regret, we can learn from our ugly past.

Lovely photo Catherine!

Oh yes, there have been lessons, and I'm still learning from them today. I don't regret what I've been through but I do wonder where I would be if I'd made different choices.

Have a great weekend!

What a wonderful photo of you. I tried smoking and didn't even make it past the first inhale. Now I am glad. The friend I chose made all the difference. But I wouldn't change a thing.

Hugs~

Claudie said...

thanks for this "illustrated" lesson and for the quote "Don't regret your past...it has shaped you.
Don't fear your future...it is yours to shape."

That invites us to reread our real-life experience with a more positive look and can restore strengths - for the continuation
