You Have To Pace Yourself

Renovations...
those who have gone through it know
that your life is turned upside down
until it is completed.

Hey Stanley...
you paint the high parts
and I'll paint the low parts
and we'll meet somewhere in the middle!

As you can see
Banjo has been his very helpful self.
I believe he is holding down the drop cloth
so paint doesn't get on 'his' bed.
a.k.a. the spare bedroom bed

Yup...
you make sure it stays down good Banjo.
Good cat...

Rooms have been painted.
Colors to be revealed soon.

Next?
Carpet and old laminate to be torn out.
New laminate to be laid.

Pace yourself Banjo...
there's still a lot of work to be done.

What's in a name?

We are putting new laminate flooring
in our living room
(Too many kitty barf stains on my living room carpet!)
and hence have to change the old laminate in our
computer room and two bedrooms.

But you know new flooring means
a fresh coat of paint on all the walls.

How on Earth is a person supposed to
pick a new paint color now-a-days??

How can there be over a
1000 shades of beige, grey and green?

I've spent $85 on 11 different sample colors...

and I'm technically still undecided

and who names all these colors?
grass cloth
jungle trail
subtle touch
khaki sun
juliet's potion
gentle rain
brookside moss
forest moss
spring moss
new moss
river moss
inukshuk
cliffside
barren plain
taos taupe
warm taupe
calm taupe
toasty grey
horseshoe grey
silver shores
silver lining
silver fox...

silver fox?

this does not look like silver fox
it looks like a light chocolate brown...

OK...
I confess...
I tried a sample of silver fox
because that's what I call Stanley sometimes... :)

This One Is For You Jane...

Saturday afternoon it was HOT out.
In the middle of my neighbour's lawn
sat a tiny baby sparrow.

Still with his pin feathers,
eyes hardly open,
right eye a bit 'wonky'.
(Blind in one eye perhaps?)

There were only two choices:
leave him there
(to fry in the sun or to be eaten by a neighbourhood cat)
or
rescue him.

Well you know I had to rescue him.
(No matter that there are millions of sparrows.)

So I carried him to the shade of my garden arbor,
nestled him between two plant pots,
and supplied him with some water and bird seed.

I checked on him throughout the afternoon.
He seemed to perk up
and before the end of the day,
there were a few more sparrows that joined him.
(His parents perhaps???)
Before I knew it, he had flown off.

Sunday morning
while out surveying my weed filled lawn,
who should fly out of nowhere
and land at my feet?

Baby bird!!
(I know it was him by the same
pin feathers and his 'wonky' right eye.)

He chirped at me and
I talked to him and pet him for about 5 minutes.
He then flew back up into my apple tree.

Well ya' just know *Jane Hathaway would be pleased with me...

And you have to be of a certain age to understand that reference.

Years Without Sleep Will Do That To A Person

I first mentioned my bouts with insomnia
on my blog on October of 2008.

I can't even remember
how long it had been going on before that
but I do know as time went on
it got worse and worse.

I could always fall asleep
I just couldn't stay asleep.

I blamed it on hormones.
I blamed it on stress.
I tried everything.
(Melatonin, Sleep Therapy, Exercise, Sour Cherry, Warm Milk...etc.)
Nothing worked.

By the beginning of this year
I was averaging 2 hours of sleep a night...
if I was lucky!

It was affecting everything.
My mood.
My home life.
My work.
My memory.
My emotions were a wreck.

On May 29 of this year
I went to the Doctor
and he started me on
a very low dose of a medication
to help me stay asleep.

It started working that very same night.

Oh my stars the world is a brighter place
when you have 8 hours of sleep a night!!

There's only one side effect.
Between sleeping all night
and our beautiful weather,
it's really cutting into my blog time!

But I feel fantastic!

Got weeds?

along a wire fence...

wildflowers will still spring up in the middle of nowhere,
and weeds will still find their way to even the most manicured lawn."

Sunday Morning Thoughts

"Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?"
~ A.A. Milne

I've been trying to sit outside each morning
for at least 20 minutes before heading to work
to drink my tea
watch the birds
collect my thoughts
and enjoy the morning sunshine
while good for the soul
it's cutting into my blog time
but I am not worried
for I know that before long
the warm mornings will be gone
and winter will be at my door once more

Wishing you a wonderful Sunday!
