Years Without Sleep Will Do That To A Person

I first mentioned my bouts with insomnia
on my blog on October of 2008.

I can't even remember
how long it had been going on before that
but I do know as time went on
it got worse and worse.

I could always fall asleep
I just couldn't stay asleep.

I blamed it on hormones.
I blamed it on stress.
I tried everything.
(Melatonin, Sleep Therapy, Exercise, Sour Cherry, Warm Milk...etc.)
Nothing worked.

By the beginning of this year
I was averaging 2 hours of sleep a night...
if I was lucky!

It was affecting everything.
My mood.
My home life.
My work.
My memory.
My emotions were a wreck.

On May 29 of this year
I went to the Doctor
and he started me on
a very low dose of a medication
to help me stay asleep.

It started working that very same night.

Oh my stars the world is a brighter place
when you have 8 hours of sleep a night!!

There's only one side effect.
Between sleeping all night
and our beautiful weather,
it's really cutting into my blog time!

But I feel fantastic!

smart enough to know when you need help,
and brave enough to ask for it.  ~ unknown

Awesome Catherine! I am SO happy for you. I love sleep. Always have. Those nights i don't get much, which thank god are few and far between, i'm kind of a witch the next day. Lucky for me.. and those around me.. i usually get 8-9 hours. I'm so sorry you went through that for such a long time. And i'm glad you sought the help of your doctor! Here's to a happier, more fulfilled life for YOU! Yay! :D

HURRAH!!! I am so happy for you, sleep is VITAL. There's a reason we spend 1/3 of our life snoozing.

I have been taking a sleep aid for three years now and I wouldn't do it any other way.

Good Gosh---don't worry about blogging. You NEED your sleep. You need it in order to stay healthy. Glad you have found some relief.. Hooray.

Dearest Catherine,
Good for you for finding that rhythm of good night sleep back; even with some chemicals in your blood from the medication. What is worse?
Enjoy your summer.
Hugs,
Mariette

I hope it keeps working till your body takes over and does it on it's own! I am so happy that it's working!
PS: I take a sleep aid too. If I don't take it, I don't sleep well. Toss and turn. It's awful. Thank God for it.

Nearly five years without a decent night's sleep? OMG. Thank goodness for a sleep aid to help you get some rest.

I occasionally have a sleepless night..usually because I'm stressed about something. I need a solid 6 to 7 hours to cope. How you carried on is totally amazing to me.

Take care!

P.S. Lovely photos of Banjo, he is such a beautiful boy!

I'm very happy that you can stay asleep in the night! The pictures of Banjo in changing color show your feeling very nicely :-) It's hard not to be able to sleep. I rarely have that problem (my problem is that I'm always sleepy!) but when I wake up in the midnight and feel restless, it wears me out. That side effect is not bad at all :-) Enjoy your sleep and lovely weather!!

So glad you finally are able to sleep. I can't imagine going that long without a proper nights rest. I get cranky if I wake up during the night. Hope this new medication works out well for you!!

I'm so happy for you! Sleep is so important! I was having trouble falling asleep because I would start thinking about all the things I need to do and I finally asked the doctor for help as well. :) Much better now.:)

Kitties Blue said...

I have always had problems sleeping. I don't know what medication you are taking, but please be careful. I was taking one, because like you I could fall asleep but not stay asleep. I took it for sometime with no trouble. All of a sudden I started waking up everyday with migraines. Already being a migraine sufferer, I didn't associate it with the sleep medication. By the time I did, I had been miserable for way too long. BUT, so glad you have gotten some good rest! Just be careful, please. Janet

I'm so happy you found a doctor who knew something that would help. Sleep is more important than blogging (which is why you don't see me very often!)

ok well you always look so fantastic i would never have guessed you were not sleeping at nights - but when I saw you the other day on the street you looked exceptionally beautiful...sleep sleep how wonderful for you Catherine!

Adorei a foto do gatinho. Eu tenho um cãozinho meu xodo. A gatinha da minha vizinha criou 2 gatinho esses dias.
Deixo um grande beijo em teu coração!

Ótima semana!
