my winter birds
coats of grey, brown and black
no flashy colors
their songs no more than
unmelodious tweets and chirps
when fighting for their space at the feeder
eating greedily, messily, and with very ill manners
but oh I find them enjoyable
as they peek in the window at me
wondering when I will be refilling their feeder
and hoping that cat that stalks them
stays safely behind the glass...

too cute. made me snicker. :)
Oh how much Banjo would love to get to those little birdies.... I'm glad Banjo is on the inside and the birds are on the outside.... ha ha
Hugs,
Betsy
I like the way you've processed these. Is Banjo "window shopping"?
The Birdie Network gets really good reception in the winter! We love watching the birdies when they can't hide behind the leaves of the trees!

the photos with the poem were great!! thanks for sharing
But.... the chickadees are still around and they are very cute and pretty coloured to me....and I love their little songs.... and also some others we call Mr. Chirpy.... they are house finches and have some reds on them....and today...some different ones than I have seen before ...not sure but I think they are junkoes....not even sure how to spell it... and only see them once in a while.... and the geese were playing around too...huge flocks of them today going round and round in circles.... it was a busy day for birds....
Lucky Banjo to be safe and warm inside, yet have such an interesting view. X
beautiful winter post Catherine........x
Great photos. HOpe spring comes soon for you. Take care. Anesha.
Owwww sweet Banjo !!..lobely day darling...we have also snow now in Holland!!...brrrr...i am off to work now !!..xxx...
My favorite winter hobby though Simba doesn't show much interest in the birdy going on....;)
Oh, these photos are lovely!
Ours 'chatter' when watching the birds constrained by glass... love that shot!
I like and thank the Lord for the glass, sweet little birds
Snow Bird-TV looks like lots of fun!
a poet and I didn't know it? nice post, the dull soft gray pics are unique, good creative work! actually very calming and pretty post.
Lovely, and so pretty with the black and white photos.
If we didn't have winter birds here, I honestly don't know how I would handle winter...no soaring flights, and cheerful cackles of the piliated woodpecker, with it's cardinal bright head. The cinnamon tinged wings of the flickers....
They might not be the chirpiest of birds, but I love them.

Wow so cute ................ Love the photo shot...:)
Glad Banjo is indoors! Our birds come to the window and chirp, telling us to get out and fill the feeder!
That's a very pretty bird!! Looks like Banjo is enjoying the view of fat, delicious bird... :-)
Lovely photos, Catherine, that bird is so cute !
We also have a lot of birds coming to the feeder, love it !
At the moment it's snowing here ...
Hugs,
Sylvia
Sweet birdies! Banjo has the perfect vantage point for all the action. :) Have a great week! Tammy
Dearest Catherine,
Great poem and keeping the cat's mind in mind...

Mariette
Oh! What a fabulous shot of your winged visitor. I'm hopeless at capturing birds on film. They never sit still long enough for me.
Too great post.
Greetings.
love the bird. I'm betting Banjo would love that bird too :)
I love these photos. They look amazing in Black and White.
Happy week to you my friend.
Hugs~
Love the photos =)
My kitty brats adore sitting by the apartment window and nattering at the poor, innocent little sparrows on the ledge!
Beautiful photos - I bet your cat would like to get that bird!
I love the winter birds, too! Wait till you see what I've done on my front porch.... or maybe you've seen it, already.
But, inexplicably, though it has been very spring-like, today was cold but there was a bird singing a spring song! ???? Snow is coming tonight, again. Cat! It's almost all gone!!! =/ Don't know what to think but, since that dang hurricane Irene, the weather has been totally bizarre!
Random thoughts... =]

This made me recall as a kid in the Mid-West seeing birds flying South for the Winter!
It's nice to see lift when it seems so lifeless outside in the winter!
I scatter chicken feed throughout the yard, and have so many birds visiting right now! I was real surprised to see over the past few days, a scouting male bluebird. I hope he decides on our boxes to nest. Banjo seems to enjoy watching from the inside!
I haven't seen a lot of birds lately, only big ol' noisy crows. We got a ton of snow last weekend too...but its fairly warmish right now which is nice.
I hope Banjo behaves himself!
Banjo seems to be enjoying the show on Cat TV from his warm perch. Maybe he is contemplating some recipes.
Oo...very nice shot of the bird! Be good Banjo! No eating birdies! :-) Love the colorful flowers in your latest post. No rain here today, but was completely foggy ALL day! I loved it, but I know you're tired of seeing grey. Have a nice weekend!
They are certainly ill mannered and I suspect always cussing me when the feeders are empty!
