Hello!
So sorry for my absence!
Last Thursday we made an
unexpected trip to Neepawa, Manitoba
where I entered the
'Triangle of No WIFI"
and very slow internet connection! :(
I originally posted about my Great Aunt and Uncle
and how, after over 60 years of marriage,
they still held on to hands,
had twinkles in their eyes when they talked about each other,
and had an unwavering devotion to each other.
Sadly, my Aunt (83) passed away
from a long battle with cancer on New Year's Day,
leaving my Uncle (90) after 63 years of wedded bliss.
When asked what makes for a long and happy marriage,
their reply was always the same...
"Always hang on to hands...especially in the dark."
Now coffee for two
has become coffee for one.
Half of his heart is missing.
But the love...
oh the love...
never ending...
always unconditional...
will live on in their families hearts forever...
A marriage to aspire to.

63 years, wow, what a gift. I can't imagine the level of heart pain one must feel after losing their deepest friend who has journeyed with them for so many years. My heart hurts just thinking about it.
Oh my gosh Catherine...so bittersweet! I'm so sorry for your loss and your great uncle's...yet, what a beautiful example of love for us to remember.
I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers go out to your Uncle. That has to be so hard to lose a love like that.

60 years!! whoa. new follower, hi!!
Sad that such love stories must end.

Catherine, so very sorry for your loss. Lots of hugs. Anesha and Skipper.
We lose more than we know when the older members of our family die. Think of all the stories they have not told yet, all the hugs they still have to give. Still, sounds like she was a very lucky lady, what a sweet story. I sent it to My Sweet Husband.
Thanks for sharing,
Kat
I am so sorry to hear about your great aunt. Your uncle must be missing her so much. But what a wonderful love they had for each other. Over 60 years they spent happily together..how amazing and lovely.
Sending lots of hugs and warm thoughts to you and your uncle.
Sending peace and blessings to your great uncle. It seems they had a truly wonderful marriage, something only rarely found in younger generations, in today's disposable society.
I hope he'll be surrounded with love and Light, that he has a good support system.
Purrs from the boys.
So sorry to hear that your aunt lost her battle with cancer. I know your uncle must be devastated after having been with her for so, so long. Their marriage was quite an accomplishment indeed. God bless one and all, Tammy
So beautiful and sad at the same time.

so sorry to hear about your great aunt. What a wonderful life they two of them had.
They lived the good life together. It doesn't get any better than that...:)
So sorry for your loss Catherine. Would that we could all experience a love that strong.
What an inspiration!
Oh Catherine... Your Aunt and Uncle remind me so much of George's parents. They were married for 73 years --and when Mom died at age 91 --we thought Dad would die right after her. But--that old codger has hung on --and made it to 100... We wonder now how much longer he will make it. He did lose half of his heart for sure.. God Bless You Uncle...
Hugs,
Betsy

I'm sorry for your loss.
Beautiful story with a bad ending.
How lovely and sad, at the same time. Your grandfather's heart must be breaking. Their advice is sound and has obviously stood the test of time.
Ooops...I meant Grand Uncle, not Grandfather.
I love sweetheart stories... so sorry she is gone. Just sad that loves like that can't walk the earth forever.
Totally agree about the 'holding hands even in the dark'. :)))
So sorry to hear about your Aunt - really enjoyed reading your post about her & your Uncle last time... Hope he's coping without her!
