Do Not Bake Me A Cherry Pie

I've been counting sheep again...
many many many sheep
I'm tired of the constant bouts of sleeplessness.

So off to the pharmacist I went
to see if there was something
"natural and organic"
that I could take to help me keep asleep.
I told her I was tired of counting sheep.

"Try this!" she said.
"It's awesome.  I take it myself.  It totally works.
Just a 1/4 of a cup before bed and you
sleep like a baby all night long.
No more counting sheep for you.
It was even featured on Dr. Oz.
And it tastes like Cherry Pie!"

Well...who am I to doubt Dr. Oz.
And so even though I hate Cherry Pie,
drink it I did.
3 nights in a row...
Last night I even took a double dose.
1:15 am awake.
Tick tick tick of the clock.
Mind racing.
Sheep jumping.
Can't get back to sleep.

Perhaps I misunderstood her.
Perhaps it is the SHEEP that are supposed to
drink the 'miracle juice'...

"Belly up to the glass little sheep!
Tonight you are going down!"

Where Celsius Meets Fahrenheit

that's where Celsius and Fahrenheit meet up
MINUS 40!!!

Well it's supposed to get down to
with the windchill here today.

It's too cold!

I'm better now...

As it is too cold to stick around here,
please feel free to move on to a warmer blog...

The Next Meal

It's hard to wait for the next meal...

Banjo starts watching his timed food dish
about 20 minutes before it's set to open.

he stares
he paces
he waits
sometimes he stands on top of it
sometimes he tries to open it with his teeth
and finally it opens
and he's off like a bullet

2 minutes of video speeded up to 28 seconds

please ignore the fact that I haven't vacuumed for awhile... ;)

A Little Confession...

I prefer eating my marshmallows stale rather than fresh...

Random Thoughts

There's no reason for the photos of the baby robin.
It's just that I have lacked the inspiration for taking photos the last couple of weeks
and this wee little delight was in my backyard this summer
and I hadn't shown the photos yet.

So after a most lovely weekend in Medicine Hat, Alberta with Stanley
and due to the fact that we once again did NOT win big in the lottery,
it was back to work yesterday with frigid temperatures...

I'm starting to think this winning big in the lottery is not a sure thing...

  • Special plans with your hubby for the weekend (any guesses as to what?)

Wishing many HAPPY things for YOU this weekend!

The Meaning of Life

One of my most favorite quotes:

"Enjoy what you can, endure what you must”~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

That's pretty much the meaning of life for me.
The hope is to 'enjoy' more than you have to 'endure'.

Happy Thursday to You!

My Winter Birds

my winter birds
coats of grey, brown and black
no flashy colors
their songs no more than
unmelodious tweets and chirps
when fighting for their space at the feeder
eating greedily, messily, and with very ill manners

but oh I find them enjoyable
as they peek in the window at me
wondering when I will be refilling their feeder
and hoping that cat that stalks them
stays safely behind the glass...

Snow Snow and More Snow

When all you have is snow...

and more snow...

and you can't go anywhere
or do anything because the city you live in
NEVER seams to clear off residential streets...

life can get a bit boring.

Hope you are having a
more exciting weekend than me!

Hang On!

I wish I had something profound and enlightened to say today...
but it's been a looong week and I'm drained.

Hang on people and kitties!
Friday is only one more day away!!!

Coffee For One

So sorry for my absence!
Last Thursday we made an
unexpected trip to Neepawa, Manitoba
where I entered the
'Triangle of No WIFI"
and very slow internet connection!  :(

I originally posted about my Great Aunt and Uncle
and how, after over 60 years of marriage,
they still held on to hands,
had twinkles in their eyes when they talked about each other,
and had an unwavering devotion to each other.

Sadly, my Aunt (83) passed away
from a long battle with cancer on New Year's Day,
leaving my Uncle (90) after 63 years of wedded bliss.

When asked what makes for a long and happy marriage,
their reply was always the same...

"Always hang on to hands...especially in the dark."

Now coffee for two
has become coffee for one.

Half of his heart is missing.

But the love...
oh the love...
never ending...
always unconditional...
will live on in their families hearts forever...

A marriage to aspire to.

Kitty Resolutions

Hey Banjo!
Did you make any New Year's Resolutions?

To do more snoozing in the sunshine???

Well now...
there's a New Year's Resolution that is sure to be kept!

Word For The Year vs Thought For The Year

I mulled over my 'word' for the year for days and days now.
Well...OK...more like hours and hours now.
(what can I say...I work better under pressure!)

And I came up with a 'thought' rather than a word.

Let's face it...
life does not wait for us and
time is moving at the speed of light.

“Life is Short, Break the Rules,
Forgive Quickly, Kiss SLOWLY,
Love Truly, Laugh Uncontrollably
that makes you smile.”Mark Twain

I'm looking forward to 2013
and doing all the 'good things'
I get a chance to do.
