What's Your Point?

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own 'greatness'
thinking we are so very significant in this universe...

not realizing that we are but a tiny little speck

surrounded by other tiny little specks

just trying to get through the day...

and you wonder

"What's the point?"

I think I lost my 'point'
and I'm trying desperately to find it...

or maybe I just need a vacation...

  1. There are times I think that way...definitely time for vacation! Just last night, there was a ladybug in our house. I had to chase it out of house before my kitties catch and eat it!

  2. Then there are those days when you are all too aware that you are just a speck. :) That's where I'm at these days--tired of the struggle of the life of a speck. I wanna be a RICH speck so I don't have to work to pay bills and other assorted boring stuff!

I need a vacation too. Sigh.

  3. beautiful photos, so for today THAT is your point, using your God given talents with a camera, and you do have talent. take a vacation and grab your camera and do more posts.

  4. A vacation is good. :-)

I admit it's been decades, probably my teens, since I thought of humans as "great," and I never have thought of myself that way. Of course, that, too, has its own set of problems. LOL.

But it wasn't until about 40 or so that I realized life *is* intrinsically meaningless (IMO), but that doesn't mean we can't create meaning for our Selves.

I'm still working on that one. But I think we do that through following our bliss, if we know what that is, or being in service to something other than our petty selves--to non-human animals, to humans, the environment, whatever speaks to us. And through kindness and compassion, as His Holiness the Dalai Lama advocates.

So while life just is, we still can make the time we have here meaningful to ourselves and to those around us.

That's all we have, and all we can do, I believe.

  22. Dearest Catherine,
You were right with your title! We indeed are more like little busy ants, moving around and carrying things... But it is nothing when stepping back and looking at the total!
Hugs to you and hope you find some fuzzy time inside.

  28. What a beautifully said sentiment. We are small in the big picture of life, but we can do big things...like help someone else or even just make someone else feel better about themselves.

  34. Oh, I just blogged something with that in mind! ;)

I don't think it's wrong to keep it in perspective that we're a speck. It lightens our perceptions up. Just as long as we know that we're a lovely lady bug of a speck! =]
