It's beginning to look a lot like...

Stanley and I went to Regina yesterday.
October 20 and the temperature was 20c (68F).
Many stores had their Christmas decorations out
and were playing Christmas music.

I love it!
(please don't hate me...but I do...I really really do)

You may say:
"Christmas decorations shouldn't be out until after Halloween!"

I say:
"Skip stupid, pointless Halloween
(my opinion only...don't send me 'hate' comments)
and make room on the shelves for more Christmas decorations!"

For me, it's not the presents.
I actually wish someone would do away with that custom.
(So why don't I??...hmmm....)
It's all about the excitement of decorations,
and the 'good will', 'giving' and overall 'niceness'
that people adopt for the season.

Granted,
it would be a wonderful thing if we
adopted that for the whole year.
But let's take what we can get shall we?

And for those that are wondering,
Yes ~ I did buy a few things!
Not anything from the above photo.
While cute, they are a little too
'cartoony' for my Christmas decorating theme.

  • And you?  Too early yet?
  • When's 'prime' Christmas start time for you?
  • Perhaps you don't celebrate Christmas.  What's your favorite holiday of the year?

My needle and thread have already turned toward the holiday! And truth be told, we have a little Christmas corner high atop an antique jelly cupboard, where our feather trees are stored (and enjoyed) all year long.
Happy (early) Christmas to you darling...
Hugs,
Judy

I love Christmas Catherine, and agree with you on all points! I too wish we could do away with all the Christmas gifts, well for me anyway. I love finding the perfect gift for my special someones, I just wish they didn't feel they had to reciprocate. After all, tis better to give....

Hobby Lobby put theirs out in July! Since I am doing Xmas mini sessions for my photography business already, I love it!

Christmas used to be my favourite time of year, but I've cooled on it considerably in the last decade or so. Not sure why, unless, perhaps, it was because I celebrated it largely alone and the proliferation of "stuff" finally got to be too much for me to tolerate.

The Frenchman and I have all but stopped gift giving and we didn't even decorate last year. No one we know actually needs or really even wants more things to add to their already bursting collections. After spending a year with my mom and her hoarding tendencies, I'm far less interested in consumerism. The few gifts I give now are small and personal, like greeting cards I made myself.

This year, I'd like to decorate a little, nothing garish, but I plan to continue with few gifts. Most of my family and friends prefer to focus on the spirit of the season and on the coming together of friends.

I don't "do" Halloween either...does that make me a scrooge?

Are you hearing the groan of dread from me....it's not that I don't like Christmas.

It's just 20+ years of retail and the only day you actually get off is Christmas Day. By then we are all so burned out, and exhausted that it seems we don't get to enjoy it.

And the last place I worked at threatened to be open from now on at Christmas....I am appalled.

It was nothing more then a retail pharmacy, what's up with having to be open not because of medical reasons, but because they are so greedy, and wanted the Asian money on that day....so all of the other stores will have to follow suit.

Sorry, there is my rant for the week.

I am trying to learn to Love Christmas again, to find the joy, the peace, and the good feelings that I had before I did the retail nightmare torture.

What did you end up buying?

I had to laugh when I saw your post. In Prague, it also starts with Christmas decorations. Although I think it's still early. Christmas is slowly approaching.
Greetings.

you sound like my mother did. she loved Chrismtas all year long, the decorations the gifts the music, she would have left her decorations up all year if not for daddy and me, Mr Grinch and Little Grinch. mother decorated every inch of her house. she was like a little child that never grew up when it came to all things Christmas. i put up my 2 little 2 foot tall trees and put out my Christmas glass the day after thanksgiving and it stays up until the end of January. but they are all that i put out, and we don't do gifts since no kids are involved. i love to go to the mall and sit and watch the crowds

Not sure, I do love Christmas but not sure about all the decorations in the shop so early. Hope you have a great week. Hugs ANesha

We love Christmas all year. Our only problem is we can't decorate muchb because with all the doggy guests, there is always some 4 legger who loves to eat Christmas Trees, decorations and presents.

So we just get our jollies by driving up and down the city streets looking at the cool decoratioins on the homes and stores at night.

Especially after a snowfall.

BEAUTIFUL

Too early for Christmas for me! I do enjoy the overall 'niceness' of Christmas and wish it lasted longer but we don't really get into Christmas until after Thanksgiving (the U.S. one not yours!). My favorite holiday is Valentines Day though because I really love all the hearts and 'love' decorations everywhere!

Well I have to admit Christmas is one of my Favorite Holidays. I just love everything about it. The food, the decorations, it's just a happy time of the year. But my opinion is they start the season way to early. I think they should start after Halloween. Which happens to be another time of year I love.

I do hope you are enjoying your weekend my friend. The weather here in the desert is just about perfect this time of year.

Hugs~

It does seem early. And I think they did this last year in our stores. I don't mind. Enjoy yourself.

We don't do holidays at our house...but we are big on birthdays and spur of the moment gifts!
I wish folks would have the "Christmas spirit" for more than just a couple weeks a year, too.

It does feel too early, but I do love cheesy Christmas songs... We're planning on doing something with the kids this year... Hopefully, stay for a couple of nights somewhere with a Christmas market, France or Belgium... We shall see what happens. We usually put our tree up just before Christmas eve, but keep it up until the end of January...

Sorry but it's just too early for Christmas for me. I like to give each holiday it's turn no matter how small or silly they are. I prefer to wait until after the Thanksgiving turkey has been eaten (and dishes washed) before Christmas season can begin.
I've always loved Christmas but several years ago, the greediness and lack of appreciation really made me take a step back and rethink the whole thing. I had a couple of real bah humbug years

Christmas is my favorite holiday, but with a new kitten in the house the decorating will be sparse this year; I could easily do without Halloween.

I gotta agree - that "ween" day at the end of the month could disappear and I'd never shed a tear!!

I like Halloween. Then again, I'm a black cat! So, the lady puts up a static-cling black cat in the window.

The lady likes to decorate a tree with all the ornaments people have given her over the years (starting 36 years ago). She likes to sit in the living room in her chair and look at the lights. Also, she likes listening to the Charlie Brown Christmas album.

I love Christmas - but they have brought it out here in July. Maybe they should have a permanent place for it - out! lol

Dearest Catherine,

About the Halloween statement; I'm fully with you. But the Christmas season we never have celebrated that overly decorated anyway. Neither gifts for Christmas; that was always for December 5 (adults) and 6 for kids. Christmas is a religious holiday and for family time. Stupid thing that it lasts only for 1 day here in the US of A and the time leading up to it lasts two months... Way too commercial and WAY too much junk is being trashed (plastics etc) that mount up and polute the world.
Hugs to you,
Mariette

NOOOOO! I'm not ready for all that Christmas stuff yet!! Can we please wait until after Halloween? Not because I like that holiday, but because if the merchandisers have anything to do with it, we'd be starting Christmas shopping in June. Ugh.

I think that is why I'm not big on Christmas stuff--it's just turned into making money now. :(

We love Christmas here, especially decorating. Our uncle is Christmas Crazy. He is already on a first name basis with the people that run the pop up Christmas shop next door to his office.

Our mum does wish the Christmas food wasn't in the supermarkets yet, though... she can only resist pudding and candy canes for so long.

I always find it hard to resist buying a few special decorations in those stores! I usually start my Decorating the first week of Dec., But my gift shopping is always completed by the end of Nov. However, this year we are going away on a cruise...so no, shopping, no, baking, no decorating! :)

I think it's totally ok to start Christmas whenever you like! For me, I like any holiday if it involves long weekend. So Halloween doesn't mean much to me as I still have to go to work!

That Christmas picture made me smile, Catherine, I remember you're always early, for me it's too early :-)
But I love decorating !
Have a nice week,
Sylvia

I wait till the weekend of Thanksgiving. When everyone else is in the stores, I'm decorating at home.

I do start thinking about Christmas plans right after Halloween. I'm crying from laughter because of TexWisGirl's comment! LOL
Christmas is my favorite time of year, for the same reasons you said. We love Christmas music!!!

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving so it goes without saying that I hate to see it eclipsed by the early Christmas takeover.

my husband is very VERY into Thanksgiving and I am not 'allowed' to do anything Christmas related (except visit church fairs) prior to the US Thanksgiving..

I have to admit, Cat, that I love it all from the presents to the trees and lights. But most of all, the expressions on kids faces when Santa shows up! :)

We are SO looking forward to Christmas this year in our new home! I used to think that it started too early when it was still hot in Vegas. But now, it just "feels" more Christmassy and I am loving it!

I told the contractor he better get his guys moving...I'm putting up my tree on Nov 1....he said ...you mean Dec 1st don't you? ... I said nope.... hurry up....

I don't dare put it up too soon...but, Dec 1 would be nice ...I don't want to have to dust it by Christmas day...

November 1st here! We're avid Halloweeners in this house. But, LOOOOVE that Christmas just as much! I say, it's never really too early to decorate for any holiday! We have the Halloween stuff out of boxes on September 1st, too. :D
