I'm a worrier
I obsess
I take things to heart too easily
I do the 'what ifs'
That's some of the reasons I very seldom watch the news
I try hard to live in the moment but it takes practice and a conscious effort every day
It's a choice I think
This is my current "sing it loud - makes me happy - click repeat 3 times" song by Jason Mraz "Living In The Moment", and in particular these two versus:
I will not waste my days
Making up all kinds of ways
To worry about some things
That will not happen to me
I'm letting myself off the hook for things I've done
I let my past go past
And now I'm having more fun
I'm letting go of the thoughts
That do not make me strong
If you have time to listen to the whole song:
And you?
Do you live in the past or the future too much?
Or do you live in the moment?
Wishing you a happy Tuesday!

Wonderful little song to keep in my heart through the day.
I'm not so good at living in the moment, except when really busy and distracted, of course. Otherwise my mind usually flits between the past and the future. Silly, to waste the Nows.
However, I do feel really grounded in the Present when on rare walks in the woods, or at night, under the stars. The realities (or perhaps illusions) of daytime fall away then, and there's only pure Being. I love those times.
But because I live in such a close neighbourhood, with so much noise and chaos around me so often, finding that peace is rare. Maybe that's why my mind drifts so much between past and present. :-)
I am also a worrier, but I am working on it. My Sweet Husband is a good influence, and of course, spontaneous helps too.

I am like you! Trying really hard to let things go and live for the moment. :)
I'm pretty good about today, but lately, we have been shopping colleges for Emma and I want to throw up most of the time thinking about the expense of the colleges she likes. I have no idea how we are going to afford them or what my portion will be. Sigh. It's not fun.
I'm learning to live in the moment. It takes practice. And, I think you're right: it's a choice.
Excellent post. I want to live in the present and I try - but sometimes I forget! sandie
I always live in the moment...even if I am napping!
I am so much like you, I find it hard to live in the moment, I like to over analyze everything, the past and the possible future.
I believe living in the moment is not for complex people like us :)
Hugs
Oh crap, you just had to ask hard questions! Uh, "sometimes" would be my answer to all the questions.
HI Catherine, I try to live in the moment and not worry about the past or the future.. BUT-it's no always easy...
Remembering the good things in our past is important I think ---and doing what we can to get to the future is also important... So--I guess we need the balance.
Hugs,
Betsy
I must say I do live in the moment. I dont worry about the future, and whats done is done, so I dont worry about the past either. My husband is a big "what if" type of person, analyzing every possible scenario and it drives me crazy sometimes! I have to remind him to just chill out and take each day at a time.
Love the music.I live to much in the past and somtimes i'm so scared what the future may bring to me.I try to learn to live day by day!!
xxx Elisabeth
Such a delightful little tune! Now to put it into practice....
Sending hugs,
Judy xx
i have a What IFFER that is the size of the empire state building.
i never live in the past, but the future of what if gets most of my attention. like yesterday half our big tree fell in the front yard. the wind is howling here, i woke up at 2:30 am and could not go back to sleep waiting for the other half to fall on our house. i ruin my moments with thinking about the next moments.
i fight it and sometime win and live in the moment. i know people with no what iffers, but they can't let go of the past, i rather have my what iffer.
worry, worry. fret, fret. i am my mother's daughter...
I often waste time thinking about the past (usually mistakes and embarrassing moments I went through) but I also try not to. I like the phrase "I let my past go past." It's a nice song!
My husband says...I'm not happy unless I have something to worry about. Sad but true...and I'd like to change my ways. Thanks for sharing the great song and making me "think." :-)
Hakuna matata. No worries! I do kinda dwell, but only when I feel like I did or said something that isn't my true nature. Or when I wish I had said something in a certain situation and didn't. Otherwise, I live in the moment. One day at a time. It's all we've got. "Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but gets you nowhere." :) I love Jason Mraz. I missed his concert in Upstate New York a couple of years ago by one day. Boo! Have a lovely week. Tammy
I've learned to leave my worries behind and live for a more carefree day. Most of the time it works but like anything it has it's off days
I'm a worrier and a what if'er. Recently I really worried about what was to come (which was horrible) and what if'd my way through what had already happened. I always try to live in the moment but it's so hard for me to do.
Beautiful song, great post. I try to live this moment. But unfortunately, it too fails, things from the past returns ...
Greetings.
that is so freeky, I know exactly how you feel, I am completely the same AND I am listening to Jason too!! such a great album
Letting go is the hardest thing in life i believe......life now is that what we must do.......but how difficult.....love Ria...xxx..
Hehehe it was like reading about myself... ;-)
When I was young (before 30) I worried and what if'ed everything. As I've gotten older I've learned to spend my time focused on what is to be and making plans and goals to get me there.
The present is often just a stepping stone to the future so thanks for the reminder to stop and enjoy the voyage!
THanks for introducing me to this artist. I listened to several of his songs and now I need to go by the CD.
And I am one of those people who live in the moment, 90% of the time. It is a great place to be.
I am so busy worrying about the past and the future I often have no time to worry about the here and now. XX
I TRY really HARD to live in the moment ..... but it takes a LOT of effort!
I'm a worrier too. I don't watch much news anymore. It's so depressing and they add so much other stuff in there to compete with other news channels I just don't like it. I do try to live in the moment, but there are times I can't help but to think about the future. It's a challenge some days for me.
Great post!
Je ne connaissais pas cette chanson, j'aime beaucoup. Moi je vis à la fois dans le passé et dans l'avenir. Bonne soirée Catherine. Biz. CricriCat
I have been try to live in the moment for sometime now. Not always easy that's for sure. Thanks for sharing the great song. I love it...
Hugs~
Those of us who are feeling people often look back to reminisce as romantics, or just as a practical way of learning something new. I think we can all benefit by looking ahead with hope! Well said, Catherine!
I definitely live in the moment - didn't used to, which probably helped to make me ill...
Sime is sometimes a worrier & I've always been the one to insist that everything will be fine & it always is...
Making the most of every day is how I like to live!
Kay :)
