Sunday Morning Gone Awry

I did my post on my computer yesterday morning
made myself a cup of tea
crawled back into bed
movie playing
ipad in my lap
ready to drink tea
and catch up on blogs

I grabbed my ipad off the night stand
where my hot tea was sitting
forgot that my ipad was plugged in
(are you guessing where this is going?)
and before I could think
my boiling hot tea was coming straight at me

I had 1 split second to think...

what do I sacrifice?

my beloved ipad?
my less than 48 hours old, just bought it Friday, new white duvet?

I sacrificed myself of course!

while my ipad went unscathed
my arm ended up with 3 burn blisters
and my new white comforter and bed skirt took a hit
(so did my pj's but I didn't care about them)

black tea on white material?

now for some strange reason
I had Borax in the house
(I think I bought it 10 years ago to kill ants and it didn't work)

I quickly threw the duvet and skirt in the bathtub
with water and Borax

after letting it soak for about 1/2 hour
I soaked what was left of the stains in
Oxi Clean Gel stain remover

'taa daa'
the tea stains are gone completely!

after two hours of washing tea stains out
and wiping up the floor and wall
I still managed to:
watch two movies
do some crafting
and catch up a bit with blog reading

and this morning
except for a few welts and two small blisters
my arm is fine

well that was some Sunday morning excitement
I could have done without!

Have a happy week!

OK now, the word AWRY is perfect. ouch and wow. i love oxyclean, we use it all the time. it is the only thing advertised on TV that works like they say it does. sorry for your burns, glad the tea came out and the IPAD survived. that would have been and extreme OUCH! hope today is much better

Wow, your arm looked bad. Sounded just like the kind of thing I would do. Hope your arm heals quickly and that it doesn't hurt too much.

poor, poor, pooooooor Cat! =(

I was wondering if I should warn you that these 'Me' weekends are never exactly perfectly perfect but I was assuming that you knew, anyway, and was hoping that perhaps yours would be. Alas...

It sounds like you still had fun, though.

I love the green ipad! =]

extra commiserations, hugs and kisses, this Monday, I think....

Well, I think you made the right sacrifice, welts and blister and all.
Wouldn't want to have to buy a new Ipad. No, really, I'm glad the burns and stains weren't to bad. Funny how those moments come when we least expect them.

Ouch! Glad you're mostly okay today. I'd have sacrificed the bedding, if I could have thought that quickly. :-)

BTW, I've been using Borax in my laundry since last fall--Mom told me she's always put a half-cup in with her loads of laundry. Not sure it really helps, but hey, whatever. Can't hurt.

No more spills, okay?

It's me said...

O my...that is not good!!.....what a story........i am glad everything looks better now

Hi Catherine, I'm so sorry that that happened to you... I would have done the same thing--protected my iPad and my pretty teacup....

Glad the stains came out of your bedding... AND--glad that your arm is okay....

BUT--don't we all just hate it when that happens??? Dang it...

Hope today is a good day.

good lord! not a good start to the day! glad most worked out well!

Well. THAT totally sucked! I'm glad you were able to salvage the day...I was so envious reading about your Sunday would be awful if they were completely botched.

Linens and Royals said...

Well as I said on my blog, some seemingly perfect days just fall apart. You had no choice but to sacrifice yourself. Hope the arm is getting better now. XO

Ouch! I think you should keep the hot tea away from electronics and new bedsets. ;)

Dearest Catherine,

So glad that you became an instant 'Stain-Master'!
Lucky you... your arm will be okay, it feels nasty at first but it could have been worse.
Love to you,

That was certainly unplanned but I'm glad everything is okay and that your arm is better. At least you were able to salvage some of your day! That card is adorable! I love your mug too!

Owie! Now I know why my mother would not let us eat or drink in bed. :)

Lin said...

Oh NO!! You poor thing!! I'm glad you are okay--that sure could have been worse. No more hot tea in bed for you!

Linda R said...

Now that doesn't sound fun at all. But I am glad to hear everything will be fine! I do hope you have a happy week my friend..

Kerri said...

Ouch!! Sorry about those blisters!!

Did you make that card int the last shot? It is AWESOME!

HubbleSpacePaws said...

Whew! When I saw those burn shots I was worried! Glad all is OK. Dang, I hate it when what should be a good day just goes wonky.

Women always sacrifice themselves when split second decisions need to be made. We have our priorities, right? So glad your burns were not too bad. OXI has save my home several times. Last time was red wine on carpet that a friend spilled! Stains immediately came out. Your blog is so tidy and fun. Thanks.

Oh why did you write this so that I end up chuckling?
It's not funny in the least. It's a tale of woe and sacrifice. At least now you know that you could actually sacrifice the comforter--because it would be temporary since you know how to fix it.
That must have hurt badly. I'm glad your arm is healing. (I would have sacrificed myself, too.)
Here's to a better Sunday morning next time!
(cute card!)
