Random Thoughts From A Sleepless Night

I wonder where Calico bunny is?

Why does water taste better when you drink it out of a pretty bottle?

Why are badgers so mean?

Why can't I write in my "I Can't Sleep" journal when I can't sleep?

Why would a sheep wear sheep wool lined slippers?

Why are the first purples of spring the prettiest?

Why does egg salad taste so good with diet pepsi?

Why does this bird remind me of Rusty from The Friendly Giant show?
(you might need to be over 40 to get that one)

Anybody have any good tips to share
on how to stop your brain from racing
during the middle of the night?

I LOVED The Friendly Giant! :-)

I sometimes pop a Valerian pill or two to help me sleep, or will take one if I wake in the night and just feel I won't sleep again. Seems to work for me. Well, I think Valerian is the main ingredient, think it's Jamieson's brand of natural sleep aid.

Nope. I pretty much embrace my sleeplessness and try and come up with productive thoughts.

I always watch a movie before going to bed, it helps me to turn off my mind.
Love the sheep with shoes. :)

I suffer too sometimes. Sometimes I can get back to sleep by breathing deeply. I try to clear the "mind clutter" by seeing everything "black" in my mind..... not sure if I'm getting across what I mean but just trying to see Nothing in my mind. But I have to concentrate too see Nothing. anyways - it doesn't always work. I'm up at 2 am a LOT!

Love your pics!!!

Haha - you sure did have some random and unusual thoughts - I usually sleep well, but when I don't it is more worry type things

Love the sheep in pink!

You are so funny! You crack me up! I use Melatonin when I can't sleep. One or two of those babies and sleep comes. And it's a natural sleep aid.
Try it!

I've never met a badger, didn't know they were so mean!
Are you sure that's diet pepsi in that glass? looks like red wine to me. Or am I dreaming?? XX

I loved this. It's so true. I have insomnia about 4 days in the month. It used to be much worse. Melatonin helped me a lot. It is a natural hormone that our brain produces and we lack enough of it as we age. (sorry)
I take one a night with herbal tea and it really does help. Keeping a 6 month old kitten out of the room and off the top of my head helps too.

Great photos, but sorry to hear you're not sleeping well! Do you have a lot of caffeine during the day? If so, try cutting down or have it earlier in the day - I read if I can't sleep, but that's not very often...

Hope it improves for you soon.

Ugh ... I've been there too many times. Finally, I just get up and head the the living room, turn on some stupid tv show and have a glass of wine (or two)!
Love that I can't sleep photo with your pics! Funny!

All very good questions. I unfortunately don't have any suggestions for you as my brain is unconscious in the middle of the night plus I now have to go make egg salad

BeadedTail said...

Things that make you go hmmmm. I've been so tired lately that I don't have this problem so maybe the answer is to prepare tax returns for 10 hours a day! :)

SweetMarie said...

I sure hope that pretty bunny shows up soon. :)
I have the same problem. My mind is racing with thoughts of things I need to do or just about anything I may be concerned with. I sure hope you get some good rest. :) You do get creative with little rest! THH!

Thinking is your worst enemy in the middle of the night. Seriously. Worries during the night are typically unfounded come daylight--I'm convinced. Here's what I do:

I think of fruits and vegetables that start with each letter of the alphabet, beginning with A. A = asparagus, B = banana, etc.

I'm good until somewhere around "k"....then I start dozing. Or not.

Try it. :) I hope it helps!

I'm sorry, I'm not going to be any help to you because I'd like to know why is it, whether you sit up or sit down, the result is the same? Is the color orange called that because it’s the color of the fruit of the same name, or was the fruit called orange because that’s its color? Which came first, the color or the fruit? How can there be self-help “groups”? Why is a pear called a pear when there is only one? Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? Why is it called a “near miss” when you don’t hit something? .... These are the things that keep me awake at night, and now I'm wondering about what you're wondering about and especially where is sweet calico bunny??

I listen to music, but it doesn't do much good. I should try the journal thing though.

I also use Melatonin when I can't sleep. It helps alot! Part of my problem is my mind racing and the other part is being a night owl(Even as a child I fought sleep) But either way - when sleep won't come, Melatonin does the trick.

OMG Catherine you crack me up! When i got to the sheep line i broke out laughing! Yes i remember Rusty!!
Why do we think these strange things? I didn't know badgers were mean? And what happened to Calico bunny?OH i am so behind!
Hope you sleep soundly tonight!

I have no advice to offer as I have lots of problems sleeping at night. So rather than just lie there I usually get up and read:)

Insomnia seems too plague many of us especially women.I think it is hormonal.
But first you should visit the doctor to make sure there is no underlying health reason.
As for otc medication, I'm very leery of that.
Try counting owls instead of sheep.
Wishing you sweet dreams very soon...

I find if I drink too much caffeine during the day or eat too soon before bedtime, I'm up and down all night.

But you are very creative in your insomnia! That's a plus. ;)

All your photos just make me smile..
I have that same problem some nights.. I have no clue on how to stop the madness.. If you find something that works let me know.

Hugs, Linda

A lot of thoughts, Catherine !
My husband snores terribly, so
I try to think of nice things hoping it will be morning soon :-)
Sweet dreams,

I hate it when that happens! I always feel like I should just get up out of bed and go do something. But then I worry that I will be tired in the morning, so I just lay there and think, and plan and think some more. Oh, and BTW, I am way over 40 and certainly do remember Rusty on the Friendly Giant! Always loved the opening of that show with the little chairs!

It must have been in the air. I woke up at 2:30am and stayed awake for a couple of hours. I just lay there, still, and close my eyes. Although I did have to get up and check my calendar because I thought I forgot which school I was subbing at in the morning!

So sorry you are struggling sleeping. I am wrestling with that a bit too. I either get up and do something for a while and then go back to bed or I read my Bible and get good thoughts going through my mind and then I can drift off. Good luck!

I'll letcha know as soon as I figure it out for myself (I count horses, of courses, but they don't work either *sigh* ;o)

I never responded to this...Tom asked me to check weather.com and I never responded....

and weather.com said that we were going to get a couple of inches on our bare ground....the ground that was greening up a bit...

but, it soon became apparent....

...and, now, there is no doubt...

that today is a 'snow day' for the kid's - no school!

Back to winter.....sigh.

It's beautiful, though! So beautiful and we knew it might happen, right? and, there's no snow pack under the foot we've gotten so it will all go away more quickly....and, anyway, it's back to relatively balmy temperatures this weekend.....

we'll be fine! We'll be just fine!

but, where was I? Oh!

I loved this post!=] I love peeking into the corner of your mind! ;) I love your take on things and....you are so funny!!! (and, that's hard to do, sometimes, when you've been sleepless?!) and, this is such a beautifully illustrated post.

and, I might as well go on and on (since I'm on a roll - eesh!)

I just got a book about (ahem) 'unleashing the inner writer' ;) and it says to pay very careful attention to what you think about when you're not thinking on purpose. I'm so jealous that you're way ahead of me....

Of course, though, I wish that you didn't have this insomnia; so, at the end of all of this twaddle is...

hugs and very best wishes! I wish that you could figure it out...

xxo

Your mind races at night because you're overflowing with imagination! You make me laugh and so I'm happy your mind is racing. :) The only thing I know to do in order to sleep is to keep a pen and pad by your bed and write it down. I can sleep better knowing it'll be there tomorrow. Then I relax everything starting at my toes and going to my head. When relaxed, I roll my eyes back in my head and am OUT! (I don't know why the eye thing works for me, but it does--my body just know that when the eyes go there it's time to sleep.) Good luck.

The Friendly Giant show scared me as a child, but I did like the part where he rearranged the furniture. I count the calendar dates, I often drift off after 6 months of numbers. I know, weird huh!

Becca said...

I've heard that if you keep a tablet by your bed and write down all that you are thinking it will help...I love your shots here...hope you finally got some sleep!
