So remember a couple of weeks ago I said Wayne and I saw some
Snowy Owls as we drove home from Regina and that I didn't have my camera?
We went out for about a two hour drive in the country that same weekend...
nothing.
We went out for about a two hour drive in the country last weekend...
nothing.
We went out for about a two hour drive in the country yesterday...
nothing.
And then, coming back into the city yesterday...a Snowy Owl!
Sitting as pretty as you please on top of a light post.
The kicker?
The light post it was sitting on is about 3 blocks from our house!!!!
Are you kidding me?
A white bird and a white sky
not the easiest to capture!
S/he was still there 2 1/2 hours later.
Clearly the 'night life' of the city was calling.
:)

AMAZING! that you found it that close to home and that the photo came out so beautiful with that white sky. so jealous
I love seeing different animals from places I don't get to see. This is such a beautiful owl!!
I wasn't really aware we had any owls in "our" neighborhood until one day I was at Mom's and heard this funny noise... finally realized it was an owl hooting!! It was night time so I didn't get to go looking for it. It was cool to hear though.
You did great capturing it!!
Wow...so gorgeous. I love owls:)
Oh, how wonderful, Catherine, beautiful capture of the owl, it's a lovely one !

oh, so jealous!!! lucky you!!!
Wow! I saw a news article saying this year these Arctic owls have been spotted much further south - even in the US than they usually go. Lucky you!
Isn't that the way it works? Beautiful photos of a beautiful bird!
Amazing!
What. a. beauty. =)
That's amazing that you spotted her! What a coup.

Gorgeous shots!! S/he posed very sweetly for you!
Oh, gorgeous, gorgeous! You lucky woman, to see her--and so close to home.
I've only ever seen two owls in all the years I've lived here--one was a barred owl that hung around on campus for a while, mostly in the trees outside my window at the time (we're in an adjacent building now) and the other was the barest glimpse, walking to work one winter morning in the dark. Heard a sound, turned and looked just barely made out that it was an owl, not sure what kind.
Well done. I think you did a great job capturing the Snowey White with a White background. What a treat....
Oh my gosh, these shots are amazing! What a pretty bird...She looks so soft like you could just reach out and pet her.
WOW! He is beautiful!! Good shot too!
Isn't that crazy that he was only 3 blocks from your house??? Hahaha!
That's funny that s/he came to your neck of the woods instead of staying out in the country! S/he's absolutely gorgeous!
A cute and pretty owl...but too funny about your ride! Well at least you had a long drive!
What a gorgeous bird. How funny that it was that close to home although after all that driving around I'm sure it wasn't that amusing to you. Glad you finally spotted it
Those are amazing photos! We have wanted to photograph a snowy owl for years...but have never seen one.
I've always thought an owl's eyes look kind of cat-like.
: )

You scored big time there - great pictures. sandie
OMC that is so amazing! Beautiful! I've never seen an owl in the wild :o(
Little stinker! Right there in your back yard. She/he is so beautiful! Love how she is looking down at you.
Isn't that how it always is? Your shots really are amazing Catherine, he really is just stunning! I wonder how many people drove by and didn't notice him?
Doesn't that beat all? LOL
And that owl is stunning. Outside of a zoo, I've never seen an owl in person.
So happy you got your pic! And whar an amazing pic it is! All are so beautiful!
He's beautiful. You have such great patience.
She is soooo beautiful!!!!!
OMG how amazing are you to get such a magnificent shot?? I am so excited about seeing this photo!
This is a frame worthy piece Catherine!!
Thanks for ending my Sunday in a great way!

what are the chances that a snowy owl is right in front of your nose? I would not of noticed him way up there, I don't think? beautiful photos of the snowy owl!
How wonderful! it's so thrilling to see an owl, I've only seen one and I think I squealed :o)
How cool is that.. What great shots.
And what a gorgeous owl.. I can see why you were on the hunt for S/he..
Hope you have a great week..
Hugs, Linda
Amazing, Cat! Amazing! I know....owls don't really show up often. I always wonder how those amazing nature photographers get them soaring over fields, etc. I never see them - even though I hear them all the time.
This is beautiful - tack sharp - gorgeous guy - and, yes, I'd call this 'wildlife photography', since he's waiting for the cities' nightlife.;) Oh, I'm just silly....
xxoo =D
Taking a deep breath. I will be gracious and not insanely jealous.... Congratulations Catherine on the fine sighting. Your are fortunate indeed along with millions of people in the northern part of the norther hemisphere who have to skillful enough to find this preciously bird. I, however, continue my hopeless search for the same sighting and have no doubt driven up the priced of gasoline with my fruitless search and... Oh stop whining Troutbirder... :(
Wow - such a beauty!
Well done Catherine - lovely photos!
K&S xx
LOL. Sneaky owl. I hear owls all the time around here but only at night. I have never seen one in the daytime and I am sure we don't have the pretty snowy owls you have there!
That is SO awesome! I love owls, especially ever since we re-nested 3 last Spring.
interesting that the owl was just sitting there in plain view in the middle of the day!
Beautiful... aren't they??
Wonderful owl, great pictures.
We always have pelicans perching on street lights, makes driving or walking underneath a bit risky.
Wish that owl lived here.
He is beautiful and so close to your house....I have never seen one but I sure would love to...Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photograph.....
What lens did you use?
They're just magnificent...and imagine only a few minutes from home.
Hope you don't have to travel so far next time.

Ha ha ha, it's too funny! Maybe the snowy owl was playing with you and eventually decided to show up in front of you :-)
These are very beautiful pictures and the owl has such a lovely face!
This is great! One of the birds that I really want to be able to photograph, yet haven't had the chance. You certainly got some great pictures of him!
