Please Give Me Courage...

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate
HATE
HATE
flying?

HATE it.

It takes every ounce of strength in my soul
to even think about getting on a plane.

I have flown 4 times in the last 12 years:
Madison WI, Edmonton AB, Abbotsford BC, Vancouver BC
8 times when you count I had to fly back
including switching of planes during 3 of the trips
that's 14 take offs - 14 landings

HATE IT!!!!

So for those of you who guessed
that I chose the word "Courage" for:
* starting a new job
(nope, I've changed jobs a few times, that wouldn't scare me)
* stand up comedy
(I like to think I'm funny so not a problem there)
* riding lessons
(I already know how to ride a horse)
* talking in front of an audience
(I used to do that for a living)
* wearing a bikini
(I'm going to wear a tank-ini soon - close enough?)
* bungee jumping
(ummm...there is a fine line between 'courage' and 'stupidity'...LOL!)

I'm not telling you when
I'm not telling you where

but you will find out soon...

assuming I can gather the 'Courage' to step on the plane...

stay tuned!

I won't say that I love flying (I HATE loosing time in the airport and I can't afford first class), but I'm ok with that.
But I wouldn't feel comfortable in a plane, if I had to go on a parachute jump... ;-)

I don't care for flying. I've only done it a few times when it was absolutely necessary. I prefer road trips. :)

Sometimes we just have to do things afraid ... and the courage comes.

Wishing you courage. My oldest daughter hates to fly and must for her job and it's a challenge each and every time! hugs, Linda

Are you climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or doing something similar? That would take courage.

I'm with you on the flying. I was a basket case just going from Ottawa to Halifax in September. Ah, I remember Mr. Scotch--it cost me $7 to be "introduced" to him, but it was worth it.

Gravol on the way home did the trick. LOL.

Wearing a tankini takes courage! Well, for me it would. :) Are you flying next week to Disneyland by chance?

Susan said...

I'm with you on this sister! I HATE flying, switching planes, getting the pat down, worrying if I have the right things in my luggage, or at least not the wrong things. I hate, hate it!

I'm with you....I have only flown twice (4 times because I had to come back. The last time was 32 years ago when I flew to England. It would have to be something darn important to get me on a plane again.

I'm with ya. Flying and I are not friends whatsoever either.
Loud music through earphones, a glass of vino, and fingernails in the hand of the person sitting next to you takes the edge off. (hee)

Becca said...

I agree with "kittykye" that's what I do!
Here's to Courage...may you have lots of it for your trip!

I don't like flying either. I cry (and pee) a LOT before I board. But I have found I do better when I travel alone--then I am forced to be brave. I wish you luck!!

Are you coming to Chicago to visit me???? :)

Oh, it must be really really good to get you on that plane!

HI Catherine, My best friend hated flying also --and it almost made her sick... Her doctor gave her a pill (Xanax) for the anxiety.. She now will fly anywhere --as long as she has the Xanax... Check it out!!!!

Bet you all are taking a wonderful trip though... It will all be worth it.
Hugs,
Betsy

The older I get the more afraid I am to fly. I had no problem in my teens, infact I loved it. The entire airport experience, and all, now with the rules and cramped planes not so much. You'll make it, maybe a little vodka would help. :) Enjoy the beach once you get there. (my guess is somewhere HOT!!!)

LOL...I remember that you hate flying, because I love flying. My Grandad worked as a manager at Healthrow airport in London, so every time I fly I feel him with me.

Happy New Year, Catherine!

I love to fly.. Cause it usually means I am going somewhere Fabulous..
Hope your trip is a great one!!

Maybe a big hand will grab your plane like in the picture! I don't blame you though, never been on a plane and never will. Curious to see where you'll be going Catherine!

Linens and Royals said...

Catherine, I am going to speak firmly and in cliche's here. 'Pull youself together'-'close your eyes and think of England'. Pretend you are in a train. It's only take offs and landings that truly are terrifying. Grip the armrest, close eyes tight and pretend you are at the dentist.
Flying terrifies me too but I must fly from Sydney to London for major Royal events. Focus on how good you will feel when the plane lands and your luggage meets you as a bonus.
P.S I am almost ready to blog again

SquirrelQueen said...

Actually I love to fly but I'm really beginning to hate commercial airlines because of all the hoops and fees. Take snacks and a movie if its a long flight.

I'm curious about your destination.

T's Daily Treasures said...

It's not the flying that bothers me, it's the length of the trip. One of the reasons we didn't head back to the States this summer. 5, 6, 7 hours on a plane is okay - but longer than that and I start thinking enough is enough. We did the straight flight one time from here to Washington -- pure hell! Good luck wherever you are going, whatever you are doing. best wishes, Tammy

LOL (sorry)...I do understant what you feel: i realy do!And it is not fear, no...it is something more: it is TERROR!!!!
I'll be waiting....

Today I have another post: a poem about birth and dead…a lonely, poor woman gives birth all alone surrounded with misery and hunger, after a day’s work in the farm…During the night she has her baby but she is too weak, fragile…so she dies…
The sound of the church bells spread the news of her death…and people say” She’s in Peace, now…let that be so.”!

have a nice day
KISS!

I hope you are going somewhere awesome! ( Better than Edmonton, or Abbotsford!) I don't love to fly,its OK, but I do it, because It allows me to experience many wonderful far away locations. My eldest daughter however, is a bit like you and really hates it, although she does not let her fear get in the way of taking trips. Instead she gets her Doc, to prescribe something that she takes before the flight to reduce her anxiety and relax her. Perhaps that would be a good option for you, Catherine.

I don't fly well either.. I pray a lot, 'Please Lord don't let them touch something they shouldn't and touch everything they should!' The suspense is killing me! Love this shot! Why don't you come enter it in my Weekly Top Shot meme? We're on Week #11 and I'd love to see you share with me! Here's this weeks' link: http://www.theviewfromrighthere.com/blog/?p=5812

The odds are definitely in you favor.... And thanks for the kind words for my spouse. Her courage has stood her in good stead for her second bout with C. She is recovering quickly and our meeting with the Mayo Clinic oncologist today was very very positive. She will get hormone therapy and chemo will not be required. Things are looking up around here. :)

Dear Catherine,
You have fifty two friends that are wishing you courage. (I'm #53)

I am very impressed! The most comments that I have ever received at 34th street is about 15.

Since you are a card crafty gal...here is my suggestion. Make a card with a photo of your cute kitty.
Write the names of all of your courage giving blog friends inside.

Pop it in your handbag for posterity. That beautiful kitty face will make you smile!

Safe travels my friend!

I've flown a few times and enjoyed it, but I do not want to fly now, period.

Jaime said...

Oh, I feel your pain about flying. The first 1 or 2 flights were kind of exciting... but now, I'm with you. I hate it too. There are too many things that can go wrong, and too much time sitting in those uncomfortable seats to think about the things that can go wrong. And if something does go wrong...you've got a looooonnngggg time to think about it on the way down.

But I still love take off.
Think I always will.
