A Little Bit of Joy for 15 Cents

Who could resist
purchasing this
little stripey
green white gold and red
glass watering can
for only 15 cents
at the local thrift store???

Well not I
that's for sure...

most enjoyable...

perhaps the little bird
is telling me I'm *cheap*

Mission Complete...sort of...

OK, so clearly I need either
longer arms
or a remote for my camera.

This little guy was not as brave
as the one the other day who sat right on my hand
but he would snitch the seeds from my palm
while securely perched on the bird feeder.

I had my camera on a tripod
set on automatic
and so in the close up photos
my hand is clear
but little Nuthatch is blurry.

I'm not very happy with these photos
but it's the best I could do with this set up.

I will try again one night this week
with my pocket automatic in my one hand
and hopefully sweet little bird sitting and
eating seeds out of my other.

This is for you

A Weekend With a Mission

I have but one mission this weekend...

to get a photo of this sweet Nuthatch
taking sunflower seeds out of my hand.

He did it once last Sunday
but I was not quick enough with my camera.

I hope you have something
just as exciting planned for your weekend... ;)

You Came, You Looked, You Smiled, You Moved On

In totally ripping off the idea from
Ann and Duke at Snap Edit Scrap,
{they are both so sweet I just know they won't mind me stealing it}
I have turned off my comments for this post
and just ask that you:

sit back
have a look
smile
think nice thoughts about me
and then
hurry along to catch up with your other bloggy friends

no comment needed...

the fact that you came for a visit
is truly a gift to me

sending you
big hugs
my faithful followers
lovely commenters
and
enjoyable looky-loo'ers...

sweet dreams!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....

Nothing says 'summer's over'
like receiving the
Sears Christmas Wish Book
in your mail box...

There was a time when receiving this
highly anticipated book of delight
was the start of spending many
happy and wonderful hours
paging through the toy section
in particular the Barbie pages

hoping
wishing
dreaming

that I would receive my
heart's desire
for Christmas.

Now it's just a dreaded reminder
that summer does not last
and that by not cancelling this catalogue
I am aiding in the destruction of the environment.

I guess somewhere deep inside
there's still a part of me
that enjoys flipping through
the toy section
and reminiscing
about all the joyful hours I spent
playing with my Barbies
and truly amazed
that for a small fortune
I could today own the
'Barbie Glam Vacation Jet Plane'...
page 732... ;)

Sheep in Wolf's Clothing

A big fat green caterpillar decided to
make itself at home on my
front doorstep yesterday.

 In it's defence
there is a 'welcome' ornament
sitting at the front door.

 And even though
I consider this to be
an 'ugly bug',
not to worry,
I did not harm it.

I believe it will be
turning into
a big beautiful

I hope it sticks around
for the transformation.

But beautiful is an equal opportunity adjective."

P.S. Thanks for all the ideas below.  I am going to give some of them a try! ;)

Has anyone figured out
how to capture summer yet?
How to save it in a jar?
Keep it on a shelf?
Preserve it?
In order to enjoy it on the
coldest winter day?

Please let me know.
We are running out of time here.
Yellow leaves are popping up.
The evenings are turning cool.

Come on...
don't hoard your good ideas.

After all,
I shared my
with you this summer!

Anyone???
Help???
Please???

Random Facts About Me

Random facts that you might need to know about me:

If you want to annoy me:

  • Talk negatively about an 'only child'.  (One day I will write my story on this one.)  Remember that EVERY FIRST child is an 'only child' until you have the next child.  Unless they are a twin of course.
  • Don't use your signal light when you are driving.  GAAAAK!  What on earth do you think they are installed in vehicles for?
  • Wear enough perfume so that you can be smelled from 30 feet away.  Why do I need to still smell you a 1/2 an hour after you left?  Why do I need to smell you at all?
  • Ask to borrow some of my stationary supplies.  My turquoise pen?  Yea, no, I don't think so.
  • Take me shoe shopping.  Shoes?  Really?  You want me to look at shoes?
  • Put me on 'hold' while you talk on your other line.  Who but a Doctor and Batman needs 'call waiting'???  It's the rudest phone feature in the whole world.

If you want to make me smile:

  • Be kind to all living creatures.  Except ugly bugs.  It's OK to kill them.
  • Break out into a song and dance once in awhile.  Especially during work time.
  • Add to your story, embellish it, if it will make it funnier.  Really.  I love it.
  • Ask me about my cat.  Especially during work time.
  • Tell me that I look too young to have a 20 year old son.  Or that Wayne looks way older than me.
  • Take time out of your day to laugh.  Especially during work time.

I just thought you might need to know these things about me... ;)

Thought For The Day ~ Just Smile

    Sometimes you just have to
slap a smile on your face
and move on with your day...

    Unexpected Gifts of Joy

When Nature honours you with a precious moment
    it can leave you breathless.
    I love owls.
To catch a glimpse and be this close
    to a wild one
    makes me feel very special.

    Direct eye contact with this
    magnificent bird from the wild
    is indeed a gift

    Until I get too close
and off it swoops to a tree
out of the reach of me
    and my camera.

But oh the joy while it lasts.

    Wild babies.
    Another one of nature's gifts.
    Overly brave.
Not yet knowing the fear of humans.

    Purposely posing for me.
A few stray pin feathers still attached.
His/her 'bloomers' still nice and fluffy.

    Until it has had enough
and it takes that mighty leap
and spreads it's wings to fly away.

    And within minutes
who is swooping over my head
and delivering me a death cry?

    Momma hawk!

    Not to worry sweet momma.
    I'm leaving.

Thank you for sharing your baby with me.
    It truly was a joy.

    Speaking of gifts and joy...

    the other day
I received a lovely parcel in the mail
    from a dear blogging friend

A beautiful woman that lives in Greece
and does so much for feral cats and kittens.
This woman has a big heart!

A sweet little note from her...
    in green ink! :)

She even sent my big boy
    a lovely gift as well.
An adorable little blue wooden cat.

    Well...
    and as cats do...
he was perhaps a bit more
enthusiastic about the green and pink bow...

    {little wooden blue kitty now sits in a place of honour on my kitchen window sill}

And a gift for me too!

A 100%, handcrafted, one of a kind original bag!
    Love it!
    Sweet Joan
reading about my love of bags
    and of course,
    my favorite color being green
    sent me this adorable bag!

    Look at the detail!
    Beautiful!

Thank You so much dearest Joan!
You and your blog and what you do for others
is a very wonderful gift as well.

    A Happy Ending

A few weeks ago there was a baby crow
in the yard that was having trouble
    learning to fly.

    This wee bird
    was looking kind of grumpy!

    Not to worry,
he made it back to mamma.

    Wishing you a happy weekend!

    Hello August

    Hello August

    you are
    flowers on fire
    hot in the sun
wishing for a kiss of rain

    you are
    everyone waiting
    cool breeze anticipation
for a moment to catch your breath

    you are
    baby bees
    wings still wet
    trying to do his best

    you are
    warm evenings
    quietly dreaming
that you go slower than July
