Hello December

Hello December!

I see you as...
  • Christmas music playing
  • Christmas specials on TV
  • watching of all my Christmas movies
  • the month of giving
  • twinkly lights everywhere I look
  • the season of joy
  • families spending time together
  • the smell of cinnamon and ginger
  • warm candles glowing
  • well wishes among strangers

    even though you are also...
    • starting off white (10 - 15 cm of snow fell yesterday or 4 - 6 inches)
    • too many parties
    • marketing media overload
    • holiday shopping
    • tired looking Santas in the malls
    • crying snot nosed children wanting everything they see
    • over indulgences
    • tapped out credit cards
    • constant offerings of tempting goodies
    • over crowded stores

Thank you December for letting me choose how I wish to see you!

My foray in over consumption was kicked off with the Grey Cup, (Go Bombers! next year)this feeding frenzy will not stop until Jan 1. Last year I went off sugar for the month of Nov., in preparation. Perhaps I shall choose Jan as my detox month this year.

I LOVE December...not so much for the snow...although I can tolerate it for its beauty this month...but I adore Christmas with family and friends, and my birthday is this month as well!

My favourite Christmas movie is The Bishop's Wife (1947) if you haven't seen it you must rent it. Starring David Niven, Cary Grant and Loretta Young, it is simple and charming and it always makes me smile :-)

I like the first part of your list the best! We've become an over commercialized society, how sad.

Hurray for December! We got dumped on with snow this morning too (I was so excited to wake up and see it - the only month I actually enjoy having the darn stuff). So far, I've got my Christmas tree lights on & had a glass of eggnog to celebrate (not the 'good' kind, just straight up regular eggnog ;)).
Do what I do, just avoid the stores altogether (thank goodness for online shopping!) - that definitely helps to get away from the "ugh" side of the season!

Good point! I'm going to ignore that second list and focus on the first one. Thanks for reminding me December can be what I want it to be.

I was flipping through channels last night and there were so many Christmas movies to choose from. Seems like that was all that was on.

    Dearest Catherine,

Oh how I love your: 'even though you are also...' Please do put an exclamation mark behind marketing media overload. Also behind tired looking Santas in the malls and the crying snot nosed children wanting everything they see is super!
That way too commercial part of it I HATE. Guess what? The best Christmas seasons ever (for the three years we lived and worked there) we had in the biggest Muslim country in the world. Indonesia. Very subtle and beautifully decorated in the capital of Jakarta, like a fairytale in the tropical setting with all the white lights (no colored lights, just tiny white). Orchids and Amaryllis (native plants) abound and that really did lift our spirits up. Not yet the killing factor of the over-commercialized frenzy that ends in a rough January...
Trying to keep it pure and not joining the masses, we will live through this month once more. By the way I slept now for two nights without coughing!

Love to you and stay warm and true.

    Mariette

Thanks for reminding us to look for the positive and not the negative. I certainly needed to be reminded of that today. I love that photo!

I just wrote my post for tomorrow and mentioned all those Christmas movies too. Sigh. Lots of goods and bads all crammed into one month!

It's a great season as you've captured the essence here. I'm keeping it simple with handwritten cards, some outdoor lights and warm cider!
