Love is...

Early Friday morning,
Wayne and I headed to
his mother's house for the weekend.

It's a 6 1/2 hour drive.

First stop was a trip through Tim Horton's drive-thru of course.
With a double double and a steeped tea we headed out.

We talked.
We laughed.
We sang.

Ok, I sang,
Stanley can't carry a tune.

Sometimes we just sat quietly
and held onto hands.

On Saturday afternoon we ran into
my great aunt and great uncle in Tim Horton's.

(Oh yes...there's a Tim Horton's everywhere in this country
and us Canadians...we like us our Timmy's!)

They live in a small town not far away
from Wayne's home town.

This is my great-aunt Florence and great-uncle Isaac.
I hadn't seen them for a few years.

She's 80 years old and he's 88.
They've been married for 61 years.

On Tuesday nights while she's at Bingo
he stays home and vacuums.

On Thursday nights while she's at Bingo
he stays home and cleans the bathroom.

They like to go out for coffee together.
They finish each other's sentences.

She's been fighting cancer for many years.
He's never left her side.

They still like to hold onto each other's hand.
He says it's just to hold each other up.

I don't believe that for a second.

I know love when I see it...

Yes that's real love, and indeed you see it and it think it is because you recognized it.

My mum and dad were always walking hand in hand whenever I saw them.

Lovely post,
Have a nice day Catherine

Cute and I agree, but may I add, a 6.5 hour drive to spend the weekend with him and his Mom, implies a bit of love there too. Isn't it grand?
Cheers,
Kat

What a sweet couple.. Just seeing them make me smile... So the secret to staying married that long is Bingo.. And a hubby willing to do a little house work. Works for me. Hee Hee!!
It does look like true love to me. Hope you enjoyed your visit.

Oh, that almost made me cry, Catherine. I can understand people staying together that long--at that time, women had few options, and then it becomes a habit (marriage, the relationship) rather than joy. For a couple to truly still love each other after that long is a miracle and a blessing, IMO.

Dearest Catherine,

That's a lovely example of what love can mean after all those years. She was a very young bride but they made it so far, with the strong support of each other. No words needed under their photo; LOVE radiates from their faces!
Love to you and I hope the visit was a good one. Wish we could visit a parent by only driving 6½ hours...

Lovely story Catherine~ Your aunt and uncle reminds me of my grandpa. He always said grandma was the most beautiful girl in the world.

And driving.... for us its the time we covet for just talking and hold onto hands! So much of life is such a rat-race that we don't seem to have enough alone time for just reconnecting. xxxVicki

Awwwwww...that is so wonderful! They are blessed to have each other and so much love in their lives. You could make the best Tim commercials with this post! I too was away this weekend, out on Vancouver Island, and yes there is a Tims there.... of course. However, I always tell my husband that it is the BEST Tim's ever! They always have your food ready at the other end of the counter, by the time your coffee is poured! Amazing!
