The Start of Something New

As a mother
I don't think you are ever really prepared
for your baby to leave the nest
especially when you only have one little chickadee.

But sooner or later
the day comes
when your little bird decides to
spread his wings and fly.

My baby is officially off to college this morning....

oK... well...
technically he's not my baby
he graduated grade 12 three years ago and is 20 years old

and yes... alright...
college is 15 blocks away and he will be home by noon

but still...
it's another step further away from me
as he could potentially be off to school in
Regina or Saskatoon next year

which means...
I am potentially less than one year away
from making his bedroom into a Foster Cat Room!
{shhhh.... don't tell Wayne...
he thinks it's going to become a 'home' gym}

Home Gym!!!  Get real Stanley...

Good luck my son
on your first official day in college!

It doesn't matter how old they are, they are always your "babies". I have a 34 and 31 year old, still my babies, but don't tell them that!

He sure looks young for twenty! Once a baby always a baby for Moms!

Teresa Evangeline said...

Yes, they are always our babies. It's a bittersweet time as they make their way out into the world more and more. Best thoughts to all of you as you make this transition.

Sandra said...

our babies never grow up for sure. at least you have a year of half days to get ready for him to leave home.
practice practice for next year.
hubby and i call the young man next door the kid, he was 15 when we moved in this house and that was 22 years ago, we still call him the kid.

Good luck for your son's first day of college.
New classes, new teachers and of course real new chicks!
Do you think Stanley will go for the foster cat room over the gym.Depends on how you put it to him right. At least its not a winter den for the gopher.

Good luck to your Son!

It's tough when they leave - our eldest left 4 years ago & it took a long time to get used to her not being here... Luckily, she's just 30 miles away & it's always lovely to see her & her boyfriend.

The main thing is to let our kids know we're always there & just enjoy every minute we have together!

best of luck to your son. I had to laugh when you said that college was only 15 blocks away and he'll be home by noon.
I think a foster cat room sounds like a better idea than a gym any day

Did you know, that pickled garlic was invented by a very lonely mother who wanted her son to remain single?...this quoted by my son this evening at the supper table...he will begin grade 12 tomorrow, I am already crying thinking about him moving away next year, my only son, my baby! I know how you feel.

Hi Catherine, since we started back to school, I am always behind. :/ Got a good giggle from this post. You are so funny! Best wishes to your son at college. My two boys will be 16 and 13 next month. My how time flies!

When we were in Paris, there were sweet little birdies eating bread crumbs from the palm of a lady and then a guy gave it a try. Very sweet indeed! Can't believe you were able to do the same.

Hope you are enjoying your down time. I was supposed to get so many project done this summer since we didn't travel to the States, but I wound up doing more relaxing and crocheting than anything else. :)

Best wishes to you and yours and happy belated anniversary, Tammy
