3 Cats Away ~ Part II

In fear that I was only '3 cats away' from being a hoarder,
I decided to get rid of some of my stuff.

The first things I got rid of were 217 assorted magazines
to friends/co-workers which cleared up 3 book shelves.
That leaves me a paltry 57 of my favorite assorted
craft, photography and gardening magazines
which fit onto one shelf.

While I could not part with any of my cat mugs,
I did get rid of a bunch of others
including my small collection of
Norman Rockwell mugs.
This cleared up almost a
full shelf in my kitchen cupboards.

I got rid of some clothes out of my 2 closets
which freed up some space.
After all, how many cream/beige sweaters
does a girl need?? So off to
Community Living my lovely clothes go.
I tried to go with if I hadn't worn it for
the 2nd winter in a row, it had to leave my closet.

I was doing pretty good until I went to Regina on Friday.
That's when my good intentions of de-cluttering went awry.

For even though I have many
cute little clips already...
cute green and white stripy clips on a craft shelf

many cute little word clips
stored in a jar in my computer room...

when I saw these adorable clothes pin magnetic clips
for only a $1.50 for a package of 4 at Michael's...
well... I had to have them!
Actually, I had to have 3 boxes of them!!
(I'm giving some to the girls at work ~ really I will!)

And as good I as I did getting rid of all those magazines,
I bought a few new ones.

And my greatest weakness ~ new journals!
Even though, as I reported to you in Part I of this post
that I had 20 new journals sitting on a shelf in my computer room
(with 7 journals being used scattered around home and office)
I could not resist buying a few more.
Well... 6 more to be exact.
But the 3 little ones were in a package together
so really that should only count as 1.
Right???

Two steps forward, one step back.
That's how it goes sometimes doesn't it?

sigh... does anyone know of any
Stationary Anonymous Support Groups?

  1. I cracked up at the magazine on artful blogging! Do bloggers really read magazines or do they just read them online??

I have been decluttering as well. I am parting with a few of my old quilting books and patterns, tossed a bunch of bags out, donating books, etc. It is amazing what we accumulate over the years. yikes!

  2. LOL ~ well it didn't seem odd until you said it like that Lin! What can I say? I read in the bathtub ~ I don't want to risk taking my laptop near the water! :)

  3. We have completely decluttered our house! After having to clean mothers house (she was close to a severe hoarder) I realized that I didn't want to put my kids through that when I die. Seeing as none of us know when that will be, I treated the whole thing as if my death was imminent and have done the whole house!!!

It feels good but doesn't look much different as most of the clutter didn't show anyway but as least I know it's done!

  4. Good for you, but so far I can't part with some of my best stuff!

  6. Hi Catherine, is the name of the supportgroup not WOMEN? ;-) I think that all women have a tic of collecting things, I have nailpolish in a different colors, scarves a whole lot in different colors and material, a lot of magazines etc.

    Good luck with your decluttering

And I really love the clips and the journals.

    Love

  8. Magazines and notebooks. A weakness of mine, as well. If they make us happy... Right? Love the doo-dads, too. I have to show some restraint...don't I? Maybe?

  9. I didn't even know there was a magazine on "artful blogging." Shows how much I get out.

Lovely blog redesign and header, by the way, Catherine!

Anyway, I thought this post was too funny...I always say I'm not a collector, but I collect greeting cards (to have on hand to give away), have way too many elastics, push pins, and paper clips. LOL. And I do go through all my stuff at least twice a year (usually more often) and donate what I no longer use/want.

Still, somehow, it all keeps accumulating.

At least you take lovely and creative photos of all your "stuff!"

I so totally get all your 'hoarding' and I really try not to be and most times I'm successful, but the pens; I'm not!!!

  18. Funny---I was ready to say CONGRATS, Catherine... But then you went out and bought more.... Maybe it's better to keep what you have than to spend money to buy more.... ha ha.....

Oh Well--at least you are trying!!!!! That's better than most of us. Keep de-cluttering, my friend.

  19. everyone seems to be on a declutter kick these days. I'm merely in the wanna be stages.
Good job though. And at least it was two steps forward one step back and not the other way around

  21. Okay, Banjo, the jury is back in session...it has been decided that your Mom and my "her" are definitely related. Yep, all the evidence points clearly to, and supports the verdict.

There is the magazine hoarding - piles and piles and piles.

There are the cat mugs - Dad keeps saying, 'it's not like you even drink coffee and you can only use ONE mug at a time'.

Then there is the stationary - paper, pens, more paper, note cards, clips, colored BIC markers....

And the final staple in the whole lot was that it is ALL IN TWO ROOMS. "Her" office and the studio!!! Well not the cat mugs. And I almost forgot, "she" has stashed some of the magazines under the sink in the half bath. And oh yeah, almost forgot the tote of office supplies/stationary I found down in the basement yesterday....

Okay, well if they're not directly related, they were grown in the same orchard or nut farm! How do we do it Banjo?!?! Sure am glad we are cats without clutter!

    Purrs!

  22. Well at least your organized to begin with and then your freeing up space. Here, in my household, there is clutter (akin to chaos) crowding in free counter, desk, table etc. Since it doesn't belong to me I have to push things back to find a place to set down my plate and coffee cup and furthermore.... Oops I think this rant my have stepped over the line but I feel better now that its out in the open. My spouse does look at blogs so you understand I was only speaking in vague generalities.

  23. Love the new look Cat... so Spring-like.
Well your heart is in the right place; recycle, reuse and find something to read and enjoy when its still so darn cold outside you'll freeze your knickers off...

  24. You're doing good on your decluttering Catherine, just hope the new doesn't catch up with the old!

  25. LOL, there may be Stationary Anonymous Support Group somewhere...I hope :-) I have many many things I never look or use but somehow I keep. I need to get rid of many of these (sigh.)

I love the new header! It feels like spring :-)

  26. I think you did a great job! Those sweaters were probably taking up a lot of space that you could use for magazines and journals! :) I have the journal you sent me sitting on my desk and have been jotting it in quite frequently. It's the first time I've ever really journaled although I collect journals too. I'm enjoying it immensely! So thank you!

  27. Why is it that no matter how much STUFF we get rid of it never looks any less in the house? I've been told rather unkindly that I am only 1 cat away from "A Current Affair" story. XX

  28. "Two steps forward, one step back."
Well, it did go forward! :)
It's so hard to decide which to get rid of.

  29. Oh you are so good....I have oodles of magazines I just can't part with...please tell me how you did it!

    Hugs and love. xoxo

  30. Ha! i also like to buy magazines and little cute stuff. and now i don't know where to store them all. =P

Good luck Catherine! and have a nice day!

  31. As long as it's not one step forward two steps back, you're still okay.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! ;o)

  32. I'm not getting rid of anything..... sure as heck next week I will absolutely NEED whatever I toss... so forget it.

I, too, have a huge collection of stationery... but, I was thinking some of it might come in handy for mixed media art work...when I get around to making some art that is.... or...hey... why not a giveaway? send some of it out... although, postage does become expensive I suppose....

  33. Out with the old....

in with the new! sigh. =D

  34. Oh! Oh! I could feel the painfulness of this! But also the freedom! (I quit buying magazines because I couldn't bear to give them up.) Now I get books from the library (mags, too), and they eventually have to be returned. But then there's all that other stuff--things that I'll want soon after I no longer have them.
    I'm trying.
    You are very brave!
