Deal or No Deal?

Would you make a deal with the devil (errr... well... perhaps not the devil.... maybe your fairy god mother...??) to guarantee you perfect health until a certain age or would you take your chances on living to 100 years of age with no guarantee of your health?

I would take the guarantee of perfect health. The lowest age I would gamble with? Age 70. (Of course, being 45 years old at the moment, if you asked me this same question when I reached 60 years old, my lowest age might be different!) But as it stands today, I would take living to the age of 70 with perfect health.

My dad died 12 years ago today at the age of 57. He had been dealing with heart complications for over 20 years. I still miss him. I think he would have taken the deal at the age of 35 for a bottom age of 55...

Me in the photo above ~ 45 years old. And yes, plenty of photo shop going on in that photo. You people don't need to see the creases in my forehead, dark circles under my eyes, and jowls on my face...!!!

Betty White in the photo below ~ she turned 89 this week. She is currently starring in a hit TV show "Hot in Cleveland", (hilarious!!), is in several commercials, and has appeared in a number of movies over the last few years (not to mention her very successful career up to this point). While her dark red lipstick is a bit awry in this photo, I think she looks pretty darn good at 89 years old. From current reports, she is enjoying very good health.

I suspect she would be happy she didn't make a deal.

And while we all know there are no real guarantees in life (except for death), what about you?

Deal or No Deal?

Hugs to you today on the anniversary of the day your dad passed. I totally relate - but you know that...

No deal for me. I've struggled with health issues most of my adult life and they've helped me rely on my faith - which I'm grateful for!

And you are a beauty - Photoshop or not!!

No Deal.... I'll just try to stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible... Whatever happens will happen... I'll be 69 in August....
Hugs,
Betsy

You're beautiful inside and out without the need for Photoshop!

I don't know what my answer would be to that question maybe because I just got done doing the elliptical for 45 minutes. It's tempting to not have to do that torture for good health!

My thoughts are with you today. Hugs to you.

First, I LOVE Betty White. I thinks she's one of the most happy go lucky, inspiring women around! I'm with Betty, I'll take my chances, as I'm already dealing with health issues. I'll continue to work on them and pray for the best!

No deal for me either. There will be a time when I will want to go away, so this old body has to deteriorate as nature wants. I know I do NOT want to live to be 89 years old! No way!!

And I must also say that you are "just a puppie" at forty five. A beautiful lady, I mean.

Lovely wishes,

Hi Catherine,

No way, no deal for me. I take my changes and will see what life will bring me. I always say it is what it is.
Pretty picture of you, you look so young ;-)

Hmm, right now I'm getting close to 49, relatively good health but with too many aches and pains. Not sure what my choice would be. Can I just want to say I want to grow up to be like Betty White?...lol

I was actually pondering something along those lines for a future blog post. Good health is one of those things we rarely appreciate until it suddenly disappears.
I believe that I will pass on deals with anyone though, and just stick with the tried and true method (prayer and the Lord *grin*, it's fool proof - as a fool I can vouch *laugh* ;o)

Sad your dad died so young, hugs to you on a sad anniversary. I'm not brave enough to make any deals so will take my chances and hope for a long healthy life.

Lin said...

For the first time in my life, I've had a few health issues this year. And while they aren't serious, they are just a pain to ignore and try to move ahead. I would take healthy for a shorter life span and if it was 60 or 65, I'd take it. We take our health for granted I think.

BTW--You are adorable! And what makes Betty White so cute is that she embraces her look and doesn't try to alter it or get work done. We need to quit photoshopping ourselves and embrace every wrinkle and brown spot. It is what makes us US!

Big Hug to you, Catherine! My dad's been gone 3 1/2 years now and I still miss him terribly too. He was 67 and I thought that was way too young. Probably because I'm 48 & it was sudden.

I would make a deal.. if I could find and have my 'one' true love until then. How's that for a deal?! :-)

Take care & stay warm!
Hugs,
Coreen xoxoxo

Hi you...how've you been? Your blog is looking so wintry and beautiful. Did you have a good Christmas?

I LOOOOOVVEE Betty White. She is hilarious. And I love that commercial she is in where she is playing football. Have you seen that one? I think it is for Snickers or Oh Henry or something.

Deal or no deal? I'm not sure. All I know, is I don't want to be old and in diapers with no cells left in my brain that work properly. I don't even really want to think about old age for a while.

Connie said...

First..I agree with the others - you're 45 & gorgeous!
As for me..no deal! I lost my Mom at 54 years old and not one day goes by that I don't think about her and miss her, but to make a deal is to interfere with life's plan! I just couldn't interfere with the natural course of life.

Clara said...

It's no deal for me. I'm inching up on 53 and really like the way I feel.
There a few things I could do without but that's okay. You look beautiful, photo shop or not.

It's good to remember your dear Dad and all of the wonderful memories you had together.

Your look stunning and loved the Betty White photo too. Made me smile.
My Dad has been gone sixteen years since Christmas. Time goes by so very fast and I thank God for all the moments I had with him and each one that went after him.
Hugs today from me to you.
