3 Cats Away ~ Part 1

I have stuff.

Many things I can't bare to part with.

You know I like to keep books I've read and magazines that I've looked at.

I love collecting stationary supplies.

I have lots of Kurtis' baby clothes, toys and school papers still.

I have craft supplies that if I craft until I am 100 years old I will never use up.

I think I'm
3 cats away from being a hoarder.

My house is not that big.

Storage is at a premium.

Here are just a few examples of some of my collections:

I have over a dozen cat mugs and cups.

I have 37 beanie baby cats.

I have over 20 Quarry Cat Critters.

I have cat books, and cat playing cards.

I have cat nick nacks.

I have home plan magazines, craft magazines and craft books.
Now honestly, if I am ever rich enough to build a house
would I pick a plan out of a magazine form 1986?
I don't think so.

I have over 20 notebooks.
These are the ones I haven't started writing in yet.
I have 7 others that are currently being used.

Now just to be clear,
for the most part
my house is pretty clutter free.
My kitchen and living room....

The downstairs family room....
not a whole bunch of stuff laying around.

But it is my craft room and computer room that houses
all my trinkets, treasures and toys.

I am declaring February as
"de-clutter month".

I will let you know
at the end of February how I made out.

Wish me luck!

Thoughts on Friday

being such a glorious day
should bring about all places of work
using only crayons or chalk
to go about their business

no pens of ink
should be allowed
for even mistakes
look better in color
don't you think?

that's my contribution to the world today...

Tickle Your Taste Buds

next time you go to bake a boxed cake
try substituting the eggs, oil and water
for 375 ml (1 1/2 cups) of your
favourite diet soda and one whipped egg white
(any kind: pepsi, root beer, orange...)

mix it just like you normally would
so that it's nice and smooth

bake it the same amount of time
as you normally would
for a full cake or cup cakes

go ahead and add a scoop of frozen vanilla yogurt
all the taste with no added calories or fat!
my boys couldn't tell the difference!

next time
I am going to try
diet cream soda with a white cake...

how about homemade ice-cream sandwiches?

you can use any kind of
instant jell-o pudding mix
I happened to choose Oreo

mix the pudding with 1/2 the
normal amount of milk (skim or 1%)
once thickened
add one cup of cool whip

put down one layer of graham crackers
in a 8 x 12 cake dish
spoon the cool whip jell-o mix evenly over the crackers
place another layer of crackers over the mix
let freeze for 24 hours

cut into squares (easily cuts when frozen)
and let thaw for about 10 minutes before eating
yummy yum yum!

it's going to be hard to chow down and enjoy
my boring multi-grain toast this morning... :)

Oh Deer FedEx Was Here

Wayne took me out for a drive
to the Research Station which always yields
a good photo shoot of the deer!

There are quite a few that live in the city here.
I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing,
but they are very enjoyable to watch.
And they are never too scared of people.

I just worry about them having enough food to eat,
without having to raid people's gardens or yards.

After all,
it's not like they can
FedEx their food in...

like some pampered pets...

Banjo won some treats from
Angie at Cat Lady Land in December
and he received them just before Christmas.
Thank you to Angie and all her kitties!
(a very funny feel good cat blog ~ check her out!)

Treats and Toys
all in one!

After all,
what kitty doesn't like a box to tear and chew! :)

Happy Sunday!

Things That Make Me Happy When I'm Sick

eating watermelon...
and if it's cut into hearts
and has a bit of french vanilla yogurt
so much the better...

wearing fuzzy socks
and a kitty at my feet...

my electric blanket
turned on high...

Banjo curled up beside me
on my bed...

a stack of new magazines to
look at and to read...

And you?

Any 'must have' comforts that
make you happy when you're sick?

Back Among The Living

How ironic that my last post Tuesday night was talking about making a deal with the 'devil' to stay healthy until a certain age and I then woke up a few short hours later with a flu that hit me like a brick wall. In the wee hours of Wednesday morning I was ready to promise ANYONE anything if they would have just made it go away. It was the worst flu I've ever had in my whole life and I now understand how people die from the flu.

SUNNY side ~ I lost 7 lbs (which I'm sure will come back with a vengeance as soon as I am feeling better)

Dark side ~ I am left with terrible sores in my mouth and a tongue that hurts when I move it

SUNNY side ~ one more day at home in bed, with my laptop, Banjo curled up beside me, watching Ellen

Dark side ~ work piling up on my desk, e-mails in my in-box over flowing, voice mail messages on my phone when I return to my office Monday

SUNNY side ~ I'm pretty sure Wayne will bring me a lovely Tim Horton's Steeped Tea this morning to drink in bed

I hope your weekend is filled with nothing but SUNNY!
xo Catherine

7:27 am update: Yup ~ he did. Thank you Stanley ~ you're the sweetest! :)

Deal or No Deal?

Would you make a deal with the devil (errr... well... perhaps not the devil.... maybe your fairy god mother...??) to guarantee you perfect health until a certain age or would you take your chances on living to 100 years of age with no guarantee of your health?

I would take the guarantee of perfect health. The lowest age I would gamble with? Age 70. (Of course, being 45 years old at the moment, if you asked me this same question when I reached 60 years old, my lowest age might be different!) But as it stands today, I would take living to the age of 70 with perfect health.

My dad died 12 years ago today at the age of 57. He had been dealing with heart complications for over 20 years. I still miss him. I think he would have taken the deal at the age of 35 for a bottom age of 55...

Me in the photo above ~ 45 years old. And yes, plenty of photo shop going on in that photo. You people don't need to see the creases in my forehead, dark circles under my eyes, and jowls on my face...!!!

Betty White in the photo below ~ she turned 89 this week. She is currently starring in a hit TV show "Hot in Cleveland", (hilarious!!), is in several commercials, and has appeared in a number of movies over the last few years (not to mention her very successful career up to this point). While her dark red lipstick is a bit awry in this photo, I think she looks pretty darn good at 89 years old. From current reports, she is enjoying very good health.

I suspect she would be happy she didn't make a deal.

And while we all know there are no real guarantees in life (except for death), what about you?

Deal or No Deal?

Cat on Monday

"The smallest feline is a masterpiece."

What's your cup of tea?

What's your cup of tea?

Is it the tea you have on workday mornings
to start your day off right?

How about the tea that calms and soothes,
or puts you to sleep at night?

Is it the tea you make yourself
when you're not feeling well?

How about the tea you drink with a friend
when there's a story to tell?

For me it's the Sunday morning tea
where you have no where to go
still in PJs
hair all mussed
you can take the morning slow.

Oh yes,
Sunday morning tea.

Sit back
and catch up
with the bloggosphere.

Hope you have a
do what you want
kind of a Sunday!
