Trying To Make The Most of It

I'm trying to stay positive about the weather...truly I am. I am positive it will be another cool and rainy day today...(does that count??!)

But despite the rain yesterday, I attempted to find things I could take photos of in-between the spraying mist. My garden...always an adequate source. And as well, with a coffee and tea at our sides, Stanley and I jumped in his truck and took a drive to the Research Station ~ which is always an enjoyable setting.

My garden lanterns have not had a chance to fully charge due to the lack of sunshine!!!
Irish Moss in my garden.

Irish Moss and Woolly Thyme mixing together between my garden stones.... ummmm... perhaps if you would be so kind to please ignore the weeds you see in my garden photos... :)

Love the green clinging to the big trees.

The grass is certainly nice and green out at the Research Station.
A walk through the trees...it is so wet it smells like being up at the lake.

A sign that things are trying to grow despite the rain and the chill.

Rainy days are good for fish... or... perhaps not with a garden cat waiting close by on the shore...

My garden bunny Kurtis bought me for Mother's day...water dripping down it's wee face...

The solar ball floats in an overflowing bird bath...

My poor potted flowers have been stuck under plastic for almost 4 days now. Their little faces pushing up against it like a small child wishing for the rain to stop so he can go outside and play.

Soon little flowers...soon...

Predictions of Ill Weather

Predictions of rain and snow for the next three days will NOT ruin my weekend!

Sunshiny thoughts for today:
~ My potted plants are all grouped together, covered in plastic, nice and safe under the deck
~ Wayne and I will spend the morning together running around doing errands {no golf for him today!!!}
~ I can catch up on my snoozing, reading and movie watching
~ I can sit in my craft room and get some card crafting done
~ I can get at those dust bunnies I ignored from last week... ummm... errr... then again... perhaps not... :)

Hope you are having a sunshiny Saturday ~ if not ~ make your own!

Nine Years Ago Today...

9 years ago today, a girl from work brought in a box of kittens. 6 adorable balls of fluff. All destined to live in a barn. I looked into the box and one of the kitties was sitting quietly, staring right at me. I picked up the wee caramel colored stripy kitten with the bright blue eyes and said "Hey, this little guy matches my furniture ~ can I keep him?" And that is how Banjo came to live with us.

This spoiled, pampered kitty was not meant for farm life. No indeed....

But spoiled and pampered leaves you with the dilemma of...

what do you get a cat who has everything?

To celebrate the day he came to live with us, I wanted to get him something special. {Only a pet lover can understand the need to throw a party on their pet's birthday or adoption day...no?...haha....}

But...Banjo already has a comfy cozy pillow to sleep on.

He has his own food cupboard with oodles of canned food, dry food and special treats.
He has one of the fanciest fresh water fountains that any kitty could hope for. And he is on his 3rd timed food dispenser. {He keeps trying to break into them and therefore ends up wrecking them!}

He has more toys then he knows what to do with and a comfy perch in the living room in front of the big picture window in order to view the world outside. And the love we show him is abundant....so...

what on Earth do you get for a cat who has everything?

It's simple!

You instead buy some supplies for those kitties at your local SPCA who don't have anything and give thanks that your special furry friend has a warm and loving home. They are always in such need of not only kitty and dog food, but towels, bleach, kitty litter, laundry soap and garbage bags. And they are always so thankful when you drop it off.

Honestly, this little care package below did not even add up to the price of Banjo's food for one month. And Banjo doesn't seem to mind that he didn't get anything for his birthday or adoption day this year.

I think he knows a good deal when he sees it!

The life of a barn cat was not in the stars for this big boy!

I'm so glad the girl brought in that box full of kittens that day Banjo. I could not imagine my life without you.

Happy Adoption a.k.a. Gotcha' Day Banjo!

Crafty Idea ~ A Blogger Award ~ And a Preview

A friend of my mother-in-law ~ who's garden ideas I featured in the post "Exploring a Neighbour's Garden" last year, had another crafty idea when I visited her garden the other weekend. An old window, with crystals from an unused kitchen chandelier, hung up in a tree.

While this photo does not do it justice, just imagine standing under this majestic beauty of a tree with the sunbeams sparking and dancing all around you on a glorious sunny day. Heaven! I intend to make this my crafty project for when I have holidays in July!
And on to other lovely things...
My dear cat friend Brian from Brian's Home, bestowed on me an award I have never received before: The Versatile Blogger award! Thank you Brian! If you haven't yet ~ check him out ~ he is one cool kitty with a lot of fur-sisters keeping him in line!!!

The rules:
Rule 1. Thank the person who gave it to you.
Rule 2. Share 9 things about yourself.
Rule 3. Pass the award along to 9 bloggers who you think are fantastic.
Rule 4. Contact Blog award winners.

Wow ~ I always feel that I have already 'spilled the beans' on my life and that you know all about me already. But here it goes...I dug into my 'closet' to see what else I could come up with. So ~ 9 things you may not know about me:

1. I hate riding escalators or elevators ~ but I'm too lazy to take the stairs.
2. I cry while watching the ASPCA commercials...especially the ones with Sarah McLachlan singing in the background.
3. I got heck from my dentist for using Crest White Strips too often...love the white teeth!
4. I've been dying my hair to hide my grays since I was 23 years old...it's scary how white my roots are now.
5. I often wear socks to bed...even during the summer.
6. I played with my Barbie's until I was 13 years old.
7. I hate salmon salad sandwiches but would 'gag' it down in order not to be rude if you served it to me.
8. I hate spaghetti and would NOT 'gag' it down in order not to be rude if you served it to me.
9. I love drinking tea and eating toast while watching TV in bed...crumbs can always be wiped onto the floor! :) {shhh...don't tell my mother...!}

Well now ~ the hard part ~ passing the award on to 9 bloggers I think are fantastic. How does one pick only 9 when there are so many lovely blogs out in the blogasphere?? But here it goes:

1. Connie ~ Just Bloggin' Along... ~ a warm hearted fellow Saskatchewan gal with a new grand-baby and a house full of love!
2. Anya & Kareltje ~ Kareltje en ikke ~ fun photos with funny thoughts and her kitty is so cute too!
3. Stacey Dawn ~ Addicted to the Click ~ gorgeous inspiring photos with inspirational thoughts!
4. Penny ~ The Hen House ~ bestowed upon me the kreativ blogger award awhile ago ~ she's a busy gal who always has something interesting on the go!
5. Lin ~ Duck & Wheel With String ~ this gal always gives me a laugh ~ and she has a couple of beautiful kitties too!
6. Katy ~ In The Sunny Spot ~ a new blogger friend who loves her home and sharing what she sees in the world ~ and she has some new baby chickens!
7. Alina ~ The Purple Caravan ~ she shares wonderful photos with insightful and inspirational thoughts ~ check her out!
8. Deb ~ Dragonfly Treasures ~ she's crafty and creative and she shares my love of buttons!
9. Vicki ~ Vicki's Bit-o-Earth ~ she's one proud grandma with a growing brood of chicks!

Thank you again Brian!

And ~ as a preview for what's to follow this week ~ I hope you can pop back on Thursday when we celebrate Banjo's Adoption Day ~ his 'Gotcha Day'! (Much more important then the day of his birth ~ don't you think?) We are doing something super special to celebrate his 9 years with us. We hope you can join us!

Have a lovely evening blogger friends!

'Worry' is my middle name...

I am a worrier...
there...
I said it.

If there isn't something to worry about
I will make something up.
What if...
What if...

I don't know when I turned into
a chronic worrier.
But I did...
somewhere along the line.

I will obsess about something for hours or days...
blow it out of proportion
think of the worst case scenario
and wonder...
What if...
What if...

I am currently reading
"The Worry Cure" by Robert L. Leahy, Ph. D.
I am only on Chapter 1.

I wasted several hours yesterday
worrying about something I didn't need to......
Perhaps I should read my book a little faster! ;)

But...
as I always say
"If you know you have a problem,
it's not as much of a problem."
Well...that's my theory at least...

"Worry never robs tomorrow of it's sorrow
it only saps today of it's joy."
~ Leo Buscaglia

So true...don't you think?

Wishing for you a "worry free" Monday!

Dust Bunny Reprieve...

I have today off!!
And with Monday being Victoria Day
that means four days off in a row!

Except for today ~
the forecast is calling for rain all weekend.
I am choosing to spend
my one sunny day outside in my garden.

The dust bunnies that are
roaming freely around my home
shall receive a reprieve for the day... :)

Enjoy Your Solitude...

Sometimes being by yourself is OK.
A quiet time of solitude can rejuvenate the soul.
You sit quietly and listen to the sounds of nature.

Rushing water...
can sound calming and bring you peace...

sometimes other sounds mix in making it all sound like music...

nature going about it's business...

choosing to include you...

welcome it...

enjoy it...

sometimes it even brings along a little snack to share...

“There is always music amongst the
trees in the garden,
but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it.”

Thoughts on Chickens and Other Birds...

As you may know ~ I enjoy birds ~ and while I haven't given chickens any particular thought, while visiting the Bird Sanctuary in Neepawa Manitoba this weekend (all ran by volunteers and donations ~ how enjoyable) and seeing all the beautiful chickens, I decided I love them! There were many different colors and sizes. The following 3 are just a sample.
Now come on...tell me these aren't 3 of the cutest chickens! Such lovely feathers!
Of course, there were plenty of Canadian Geese living at the reserve as well.
And the baby goslings...how sweet are they???
Hissing swans...not so cute! In fact...kind of scary ~ but still very beautiful.
Two sleeping ducks...lovely...
And the peacocks...always ready to put on a show for anyone wanting to watch. Their tail feathers are so recognizable.
But have you ever stopped to appreciate their 'booty'?
That has got to be some of the softest looking fluff I have ever seen.
The Bird Sanctuary is full of other surprises too. But that is for another post!

Hope you are having a wonderful week!
