Sunday Morning Baking

Another Sunday ~ another batch of cookies. These have oatmeal, chocolate chips, craisins
and...when the boys aren't looking...flax!
(What they don't know won't hurt them ~ right?)
These aren't the dainty cookies you drink with tea
like the
Sugar Cookies I made a few Sundays ago.
Nope...
these are the kind of cookies
you must eat with a big tall glass of milk!
And if that milk is in a kitty cat glass...
well...so much the better.

Now...if you will excuse me.
It appears I have some dishes to do. :(

Word of the Day

“Enjoy what you can, endure what you must.”
~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I have but one simple goal in life:
No matter what kind of day I am having,
laugh out loud at least once.

Thank you for reminding me
of that my dearest Katrina.

Go Canada

A message written on a snow covered fence
at one of the city school yards.

While I would rather
scrub out my toilets with a toothbrush
then watch any kind of sports,
I am happy for our Canadian athletes
that are doing so well.

Indeed ~ Go Canada!

Summery Critters

It would appear that Mother Nature was NOT getting serious as it is snowing this morning... again... sigh...

Enough said on the crappy weather. Let's start Friday off right! My friend Kat at
kats corner has come up with a fun idea. And I quote:
"So here is the challenge, post your favorite spring or summer photo to your blog, that's all. Easy stuff. Come on, show me. There aren't any prizes, I just want to see your favorites. Kat"

Wonderful idea Kat! And since I need extra cheering up this morning with the snow and all, I decided to repost 5 of my favorite little critters of Summer 2009! (are bugs critters??? hmmm....)

Here we have Stanley Squirrel! Hey little Stanley! I have mixed emotions as to whether or not I want you back. While you are horribly sweet, you chase my birds away and eat all their food. Naughty squirrel! But you are so cute!

Ewww...remember Spidey? She was one of the first pictures I took with my new Macro Lens. GAAK! I guess you are welcome back...sort of...
Oh sweet little Yellow Finch. How I miss thee. I await the return to my bird feeders. You are pure sunshine!
Hey Miss Lady Bug! I hope you are able to come out of hiding soon. You are always so pretty. Hi Dragonfly! If anything means 'hot summer day' to me ~ it's you. Loved sitting by the creek and taking your picture that day!

So there you have it. I hope you liked them. I know it brought a smile to my face thinking of being outside on those warm days taking these photos.

:)
see my smile?

Thanks again for the idea Kat! Have a lovely Friday everyone!

Remembering To Be Thankful

I have had this poem by T. Lambert, Jr along with Kurtis' finger prints and picture in a frame on our bedroom wall for at least 12 years. I look at it and read it often. For the last couple of weeks I have been looking at it and reading it every day.

We take so many things for granted. Health being one of them ~ our own and the one's we love. There is a family in particular that has been on my mind and in my heart for the last couple of weeks. They are starting on a long path with their child, who is only a few months older than my Kurtis.

Our children, no matter how old they get, will always be our babies. We do anything we can to protect them, but sometimes it is still not enough. Sometimes things are out of our hands.

I reread this poem again tonight and remember to be thankful.

All my thoughts, all my love to any parent that needs it tonight...

My Heart is Here

As snow falls outside again this morning and I think of friends and family off on winter holidays in warmer places, as much as I am tired of winter, there is no place I would rather be then home. I have no desire to be a world traveler. Flying is one of my least favorite things to do. Four days away from home seems to be my limit. The longest I have been away from home is 8 days where both of my boys were with me, and then 7 days where it was me and my BFF on a business trip. Both times I cried and cried when I finally got home. I don't know what it is. I can't explain it. You either get it or you don't.

While I do love getting away for a few days here and there, and I know my BFF faithfully looks after my kitty kat cat while we are gone, I do not like the thoughts of going too far.

Perhaps one day I will feel differently and go with Wayne to Pebble Beach CA to golf (errr...he would be golfing...I would be shopping...) or to the East Coast of Canada for what I anticipate would be beautiful photo opportunities.

But for now, my whole heart and soul is happy to be in my warm and comfy home with my love, my son and my cat...

A Little Sun Please

You can always find the sun within yourself
if you will only search. ~ Maxwell Maltz

Well...that may be true Maxwell
but I wouldn't mind seeing it in the sky
for a day or two as well...! :)

They're really clean animals...

Episode From Seinfeld:

ELAINE: I know, I know. I'm sorry I'm late.
JERRY: No problem.
ELAINE: I dropped a grape.
GEORGE: Pardon?
ELAINE: I dropped a grape in the kitchen and it disappeared. I couldn't find it. I was... I was literally on my knees for ten minutes looking for this stupid grape. I have no idea where it went.
JERRY: Were you crying? I mean, it's just a grape. You'll find it.
ELAINE: No, I'm just getting over an allergy attack. This guy I'm going out with has two cats and I'm allergic to them. You know, I finally meet a normal man, and I can't even go into his apartment, you know. He won't even go away for the weekend because of these cats.
GEORGE: Guys with cats.. I don't know.

(A few scenes later...)

(Elaine sneezes)

JERRY: Is that still from the cats?
ELAINE: No, I just have a cold.
JERRY: So, what ever happened with that?
ELAINE: I gave him an ultimatum. (Shrugs)
GEORGE: He chose the cats?
ELAINE: They're very clean animals.
JERRY: I gotta say, that's pretty sad. Losing out to a cat.

They really are very clean animals... :)

Sometimes You Need To Hold Your Breath

There are moments
in front of us
that we miss with a single breath.

It is gone
before we even realize
it was there.

If we could learn to hold our breath
~ look a little closer ~
and see the little things we keep missing.

I've been wishing for the snow
to be gone for so long now.

I forgot to sit back
to look at and appreciate
what's in front of me at the moment.

I hope you take time
to see what's in front of you.

Perhaps
~ like me ~
you have been
missing something.
