So much to do... so little time...

Are you starting to feel rushed?
Like there isn't enough time left to do the things you need to do?

Before you go making yourself crazy about something that isn't going to get done before Christmas day, ask yourself this simple question:

"Will Christmas be ruined if we don't have ________?" (fill in blank):
  • all the baking you planned to do finished
  • the house perfectly clean
  • every inch of your home covered in lights
  • the hand crafted "Martha Stewart" Christmas Crackers
  • 12 dozen gifts under the tree
  • 5 maxed out credit cards
  • 4 jelly salads
  • 3 kinds of bread
  • 2 types of gravy
  • and a fruit cake as large as your head...

~~~Quote from "The Grinch"~~~
Narrator: Every Who down in Who-ville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN'T stopped Christmas from coming! IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!
And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling:
Grinch: How could it be so?
It came without ribbons! It came without tags!
It came without packages boxes, or bags!
Narrator: And he puzzled and puzzed, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!
"Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store.
Maybe Christmas… perhaps… means a little bit more."
Have a beautiful ~ stress free ~ weekend!
Thanks for the reminder, I do tend to stress a little.
It *can* be a stressful time, definitely. I haven't any family here, so the holidays always are quiet. The only stress is in shopping and wrapping and get the gifts mailed out to the east and west coasts! But that's done, so my stress also is done for another year. LOL.
Have a wonder-full weekend!
Oh, you beautiful woman bearing beautiful words! =] Perhaps, I should feel stressed - I've hardly done anything.......still! I just can't seem to get hyped but am still thinking that I can do it all. I don't know, I think that I'm just going along for the ride and am having fun. I have to tell you, though, I finally found my favorite Christmas CD. It had fallen behind something. Life is very different, now that I've found it. Let the season begin!
Absolutely True!!!! A True Christmas happiness doesn't come from a store Or even from 'best' food or goodies. It comes from the Heart!!
Our human is at the age that conformity or opinion won't affect much.
Just do what you can and enjoy it. If you can't do all...oh well, you did what you could...
The actual song didn't begin to come to mind til I got down to the "4 jelly salads".. la la la.... and a partridge in a pear tree... that was pretty funny. Martha Stewart Christmas crackers indeed...! hah! as if... She'd be the first thing I'd scratch off my list...if I had a list that is....
Happily, our Christmas is really easy... and so simple.... just enjoy the season.... that's it. Probably a lot easier because we have no family near us... and a small family anyway....
Sometimes we all need this reminder. I know I do. Have a lovely weekend.
I literally thought of the exact same quote the other day - it went running through my head as I gave up on more decorating and baking and ... and ... and...
Cute photo - and I'm so glad I do NOT have a fruitcake as large as my head in my house!!! ;o)
What a great reminder! I have friends running around and around trying to get Christmas perfect. To me, just being with my family and having everyone happy and healthy makes the perfect Christmas!! And perhaps a dozen wedding cookies and a large latte :)
Happy Friday!
I have a small family and the kids just wanted Scott and I splurged on Cat toys and a new coffee maker. Which of course we're already using!
Merry Chrismas!
I think Catherine that the message is clear....the only way to truly enjoy our days....whatever the to keep things simple..and stress free..or at least stress less! right!
great advice!
a fruit cake as big as your head..actually sounds very stressful to me! lol what if it falls on my foot? can you imagine all the stressing that will ignite? lol
I think we (at least in our country) have lost the true meaning of Christmas. I know that I did--years ago. When my kids were little, my first hubby and I went into debt to have tons of toys for our sons... It was stressful and felt horrible. I began to hate Christmas.
THEN--I changed everything we did about Christmas. We quit spending alot of money and did more giving to others in need, rather than giving to each other..
I do love to decorate --but other than time and electricity, it doesn't cost us much. These days, we don't stress out --and we LOVE Christmas...
I needed to read this today. Thank you for the reminders :)
When I get worried about something, I often ask myself, "What's the worst thing that could happen?" That always puts things into perspective.
Have a great weekend!
This is so very true...where do we get off thinking the holidays have to be perfect? It's in the quest for perfection that we ruin the memories since they are clouded by stress.
Thank you so much. We are getting our tree tomorrow and I'm thinking, I have to do A, B, C and gosh NO!!! I want to enjoy my boys and if that other stuff gets done, then it's a bonus!
I love this post! I stressed for years over making Christmas perfect and silly me I didn't realize that it already was.
Very timely post because I'm in the midst of stress right now. I have no tree, no presents for family and friends, no baking done and am so not ready for Christmas but we did finish all the shopping for our Adopt-a-family and will be taking it in tomorrow. We will take food and toys to the animal shelters next weekend too. I just need to relax and breathe and pet my kitties and Sadie!
Hugs to Banjo!
Now how cute is that teddy with the turquoise feet!
We strss far too much and the most important thing should be how we spread joy and count our blessings not the to do lists.
I understand that many people feel rushed and stressed around this time of the year...but I hope it is not like that. Holiday season must be a fun time!
Christmas will not be ruined if we don't have maxed credit cards! It is a fun list you made :-)
I hope you will have a stress-free weekend!
