Thoughts on Chickens and Other Birds...

As you may know ~ I enjoy birds ~ and while I haven't given chickens any particular thought, while visiting the Bird Sanctuary in Neepawa Manitoba this weekend (all ran by volunteers and donations ~ how enjoyable) and seeing all the beautiful chickens, I decided I love them! There were many different colors and sizes. The following 3 are just a sample.
Now come on...tell me these aren't 3 of the cutest chickens! Such lovely feathers!
Of course, there were plenty of Canadian Geese living at the reserve as well.
And the baby goslings...how sweet are they???
Hissing swans...not so cute! In fact...kind of scary ~ but still very beautiful.
Two sleeping ducks...lovely...
And the peacocks...always ready to put on a show for anyone wanting to watch. Their tail feathers are so recognizable.
But have you ever stopped to appreciate their 'booty'?
That has got to be some of the softest looking fluff I have ever seen.
The Bird Sanctuary is full of other surprises too. But that is for another post!

Hope you are having a wonderful week!

All the birds are so pretty! I haven't seen chickens like that before and it's been a long time since I've seen a peacock - I forgot how beautiful they are. Looks like a wonderful place to visit!

Lovely bird photos. Don't chickens come in so many great colros? We have a farm across from us, next to the goats and they have peacocks, turkeys, geese, ducks and chickens! Love your new blog look!

When I was little, my kindergarten had chickens. On the weekend we would have turns at taking them home and looking after them. I got in trouble for taking a chook to bed with me (and on another occasion, a rabbit). They are wonderful! :)

I love chickens too!! My dream is to someday have a few of my own, but right now with a couple of dogs that would think they would make a meal, I just can't, so I just have to stick to admiring them! We do hear the peacocks from the neighboring farm and they sometimes wander into our yard which is a real treat!!

My father has chickens, and my mother & my step-mother both have chicken themed kitchens...
: )
Needless to say, I buy a lot of chicken trinkets * knick-knacks for gifts.

The sanctuary looks very lovely, what a treat! I hope you had a wonderful time!

You captured their beautiful feathers so well. I love roosters and seeing these new varieties is fascinating.

Birds are so much fun to watch, especially in the spring. We have a lilac tree in front of our house and there has been a robin's nest in it for the past three springs. A month or so ago we had a hail storm. I took a photo of the nest and posted it on my blog. It was filled with hailstones. It did quite a bit of damage to the nest (and our house). The robin rebuilt it and is now sitting on some eggs. I'm not quite tall enough to see how many eggs there are, I can see blue in the nest though. :)

Thanks so much for coming over and following my blog! I'm returning the favor, as I find yours so fun! And you share my love for Gods creatures!
I love your photos, I've never seen such beautiful chickens, my father raised them when we were growing up, but the one looks as if it were painted! It's so beautiful, and the peacock pictures are amazing!

I love the chickens! My mother used to have six but sadly a fox got into them one night.
I have been wanting to get a few chickens for ages now but my husband is very reluctant-I know he'll fall in love with them when we get them!
Lovely photos, Catherine!

That one chicken looks as if it is wearing lace! They ARE lovely--all of them!

I'm with Lin...that second chicken looks as though she is covered in a black lacey shawl! Or a doily. ;)
