Best Wishes

I am wide awake.
I've had less than 4 hours sleep.
Do you suppose I will be 'ringing in' the New Year???
...ummm...I am thinking not...

But luckily ~ this will be of no consequence
to me as I haven't been awake to see
the changing of the year for many many years.

My usual New Year's Eve routine?
If I'm feeling particularly 'wild',
my love and I will be curled up on the couch,
sharing a bowl of popcorn and watching a movie.
Sometimes ~ I stay awake until almost 10:00 pm!

However you are celebrating
the New Year this evening,
be it quiet and simple,
be it going out with a 'bang',
please be safe.

I wish for you all the
best for
2010!

that's how exciting I usually am ~

Dearest Deer...

We have a very large family of deer that live within our city limits. While they can sometimes be a bother ~ especially when partaking in a little snack of your carefully planted garden or your most expensive perennials ~ they can also be a source of pure enjoyment for those of us who can sit in the middle of nature all day.

They {I counted 15 the other day} can usually be found in the little wooded area beside our Research Station. On Monday I spent at least 1/2 an hour sitting outside {freezing my extremities} my car, watching and taking pictures of them. They aren't really scared of humans ~ perhaps that is a bad thing. But as one in particular kept inching her way towards me ~ I was loving every minute of it.

I think that the next time I go ~ I will bring them some carrots...

5 Minute Photo Shoot

We hadn't done family pictures for a couple of years. Wayne tolerates having his picture taken, Kurtis hates it. I think I took too many pictures of him when he was a baby. {But he was so adorable how could I not???} I could only drag out of them a 5 minute photo shoot. 5 minutes! Are you kidding me?

I had my self-timer on and only got to push the button 3 times before they both took off. Banjo? Forget about it. It wasn't going to happen. So I only got a picture of the 3 of us ~ and we really do consider Banjo a part of our family but ~ since he hid somewhere and I only had 5 minutes, I didn't have time to chase him down and strangle hold him into the picture. I should have photoshopped him in ~ ha ha! Luckily, I had the self-timer on 'burst' and so got 6 shots with one click so technically got 18 pictures in 5 minutes.

I told the boys to change their expression and move a bit with each of the 6 clicks...ummm...did you hear me boys? Move a bit, change expressions, look someplace different...nothing... All 18 pictures ~ they both pretty much looked like below.

WORK WITH ME PEOPLE!!!! Gaak!

Hmmmm....oh well.

Hope you have an enjoyable day ~

Merry & Bright

"We sometimes are laughing a bit too loud,
but that never hurt no one."
~ Billy Joel

indeed Billy Joel...indeed...

Sometimes I laugh too loud and disturb people.
I shall ignore those that it bothers this week.

Hope your week is both

Love is Here

I bought this rock on my and Katrina's Moose Jaw trip early this fall. There are two things that come to mind when I look at this rock:

1) I didn't notice it at the time when I bought it, but upon closer inspection, I found a little heart in the markings. So sweet!

2) My paternal grandfather (a farmer) would have been perplexed by the thought of paying good hard earned money for a rock. He had also been amazed by the fact that restaurants would charge you money and serve you 'potato skins'. :)

Have a most lovely Sunday!

Love is...

...having a hubby that helps pay for food and kitty litter
and then carries it into the
local SPCA for you.

Love you Wayne!

Reminder:
Don't forget, our furry friends need extra help during the holiday season as well! The gal at the Swift Current SPCA said their cat section is full. It's been bitterly cold early this week and will get worse during the next couple of months.

Looking for a pet for Christmas?
Consider some of the cats and dogs at your local animal shelter.

You'll find a friend for life!

Long Lost Relatives

Is it just me, or have I perhaps found a line of Banjo's relatives? Here's a picture of Banjo when he was but a wee baby. Now pop on over to Love-and-Hisses and scroll down until you see the "Cookie" family and in particular the picture of "Pouty Miss Pink" - the little kitty having a snoozy in the cat bed.

Don't you think Banjo could be her long lost uncle or something?
What do you think Banjo? Any relation?

I'm a Lucky Girl

I am on holidays until next Tuesday!
No work for me today.
Wayne is off today and tomorrow as well.
I think I shall treat him to breakfast out this morning.
Perhaps we will go on a photo shoot.
Maybe we will go buy our Christmas groceries.
An afternoon snoozie might be nice.
Or perhaps we could clean our house.
The 'dust bunnies' seem to have gone awry.
The possibilities for today are endless!

PS:
I know the above has nothing to do with my picture for today
but sometimes I can't match my picture to my thoughts
so unless I would have taken a picture of my dust bunnies...!!
I chose this picture of cherries in dry leaves
and am hoping this is nicer than what a picture of
my dust bunnies would have been! :)

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

9 more sleeps until Christmas ~ it's hard to believe. Right now ~ this week before Christmas is really my most favorite. It's when everyone seems to be at their nicest (well maybe not everyone...there still seems to be a few Scrooges out there... and you totally know who you are... HEY PEOPLE... LIGHTEN UP... IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!)....hmmm ...where was I?

Oh yeah ~ so most people are being their nicest, last minute gifts are still being bought, most everyone that is decorating for the holiday season has done it, and the small world I live in seems very...pretty! Very warm! Well warm today finally ~ to wake up to -16 rather than the -45's it has been here the last few days is pure joy!

It goes so fast from here ~ hang on tight people ~ here we go!

So as the next few days go speeding past, I hope to:
  • Watch for the little 'happy' moments
  • Try to bring a smile to someones face every day
  • Notice if someone needs help
  • And be thankful every day for what I have

Have a warm and fuzzy holiday season Wednesday!

Busy Day

I had a very busy day off yesterday! First I chased Banjo away from the Christmas tree.
Then I baked cookies.
Then I chased Banjo out of the kitchen as he was going to jump up onto the cupboard.
Then I cleaned my kitchen.
Next I chased Banjo away from the Christmas tree.
Then I wrapped some presents.
Then I chased Banjo away from the presents. {Do you see a pattern happening here?}
Then I wrapped some more presents.
Then I scolded Banjo for chewing on a bow.
Then Banjo hid under a kitchen chair, waiting for me to ignore him.
Then I finished wrapping presents.

Then I gave Banjo a good 'talking to' and he ignored me...

It was a good day...

Happy Friday

No Work For Me Today!

I have today off.

No going out into the wind and cold for me!
{although it is a 'tropical' -19 Celsius out this morning...}

I am staying home to bake cookies.

Ginger Chews, Shortbread and Peanut Butter Squares.

Want to stay home and bake cookies with me?

Choosing What To See

Sometimes we get so focused on
the bad, the negative and the wrong.

We forget to see
the good, the positive and the right.

Not that we want to go around with our head in
a sunny pink fluffy cloud all the time,
but when you have been sitting in
a rainy grey storm cloud for awhile,
it's hard to pull your head out of there.

Don't you think?

Snow Day

How come a "Snow Day"
never causes work to be cancelled?
