Random Thought - Be Different

I was never really one to 'follow the crowd'. Even as a teenager it never bothered me to be the only one at the party not drinking or doing the 'Mary Jane Whanna'. Except for about 8 months when I was around 16 that I did a couple of things 'out of character' {sorry to be a pain mom...}, I think I was a pretty good kid. While a few of my girlfriends were sneaking out of their bedroom windows at night to drive around, drink beer and party with boys, listening to AC DC and Nazareth 8 Track Tapes {8 Tracks!!! OMG - how old am I???}, I was in my bedroom reading, writing, drawing and singing to Karen Carpenter records...or...dare I admit it...Olivia Newton John...alright...let me get it all out...or even Anne Murray...{OK...so I was a bit of a nerd...}

I still have that inner dweeb in me. I've read all the Harry Potter books, love all the Star Wars movies, enjoy musicals, love to craft, love reading, could happily become known as the 'cat lady' when I get older {much older...}, love watching birds, can still belt out all the words to songs that I sang from the mid-70's to late 80's, and still have a secret desire {not so secret now I guess...} to write a Nancy Drew book...

So for anyone that has ever felt 'different' ~ this post is for you today ~ I declare Friday, July 31, 2009 as the day to come to terms with your inner 'quirkiness'!!!! Re
cognize and celebrate what makes you special and be thankful that you are who you are! Show it off and have a super great day being yourself!

My Favorite Supper

Popcorn for Supper...when a bowl of Cheerios just won't do...!

Actually...we've been known to have Cheerios for supper quite often. It's when neither of my boys are home that I break out the 'good stuff' for supper and have popcorn and a big glass of diet Pepsi... ahhh...life is good!

What do I look like...

What do I look like behind my new camera???

Very youthful if I do say so myself...('cause obviously I can't hear you say it!!)

And NO...there was no photoshopping out wrinkles or anything of the sort involved in the above picture!!! Black and white is just very kind to the skin. :-)

Boots on Fence

A short distance South East from town there is a fence that has many many boots stuck on the end of the fence posts. It goes for quite some distance. Mostly work boots, the odd cowboy boot and runner and even a slipper. I'm not sure I understand the 'why' - but it is different and interesting!

Rediscovering Mondays

Mondays have always gotten a bad reputation. It's the day most people restart work after having a couple of days off. It's the day the Monday to Friday, 8 to 5'ers dread. I myself have posted a few posts, groaning about the fact that it was Monday. But I'm here today to change all that.

Let us rejoice that Monday is upon us once again. The start of a new week with the sun faithfully rising in the East. It is the day that holds the most promise of a fulfilling and gratifying week of work. The day that a slate is wiped clean and a person can start fresh their plans to: have more family time, gossip less, exercise more, eat healthier, etc. The day that...

Hmmm...what else...

Let me think...

OH...and...i
t's the first day that leads up to Friday!

There we go - let's hear it for Mondays!!!! Whahoo!!!! It's Monday!!!!

A Promising Day...

There are rain clouds forming outside this morning
It threatens - no - it PROMISES rain
What better for a day of wanting to do nothing
Then rain tapping on the window~~~
Today it will be the little things that I enjoy
Staying in bed
With a mug of tea
Watching a movie
Posting a blog~~~
I will be getting lunch ready for when Wayne comes home
He is golfing (surprise!!!!)
But it's his birthday today
So I guess it is his day today
He may do what he pleases...

But just for today~~~ ;-)

Happy Birthday my Love!

Favorite New Artist - Lisa Mitchell

No Bugs Today!

It was Wayne's annual Golf & BBQ party yesterday. As I do not golf (I would rather stick toothpicks under my fingernails thank you very much...) I sat up in the club house taking pictures as everyone came in. After supper, a baby bird decided to perch on the prizes while it waited for it's momma to come feed him! Cute little baby - please do not poop on the prizes!
So here's what I learned with this one...when you have a new camera and you want - need - to get the picture - put it in auto rather than manual!!!! GRRR!!!!!!!!! I'm so mad at myself!
Sorry National employees! I let you down!
The baby bird didn't stray too far from the deck all evening.
He waited in the flower pot for awhile...but I found him!
Poor little guy! More supper please!

Ok little bird - one more picture and then I will leave you alone!

Smile For The Birdie!!!! :-)

Spidy's Lunch

I went outside this morning to give my flowers a quick drink before work and noticed that "Spidy" had caught a bumblebee and was dragin' it up the flower. I ran in the house and grabbed my ol' trusty LUMIX! (Oh the joys of the simple point and shoot!)

I promise I will post more pleasant photos this weekend. Enough grossness with the bugs already!!

Pretty? Pretty Ugly!

OK... first let me get this out of my system... EEEEEKKK.... EEWWW... BLAH... YUUUUCCCCKKKK.... YEEEEE... GET IN THE HOUSE!!!!!! (shiver) Can you tell that I'm having anxiety posting these pictures? You should have seen me last night! Gak!

So..I was out in my garden last night, practicing with my camera, happily minding my own business taking pictures of a yellow flower when all of a sudden...the yellow flower moved! Imagine my horror when I realized I was eye to eye to eye to eye to eye to eye to...(I'm thinking you get my meaning!) with this crazy looking yellow spider!

I just had my regular 18 - 55 mm lens on with the above picture and so I ran into the house to grab my macro lens and courageously came back outside.

It took every ounce of strength I had not to go running back into the house and hide in my closet. But I bravely moved in a little closer - took a few more pictures - moved a few different angles - and prayed that this beastly thing would not all of a sudden decide to jump at me!! Don't get me wrong, I can squish a Daddy Long Legs spider, a bitty Black Beetle or a Maple Bug in a kleenex with the best of them...but this...this thing was just pure evil looking...

How many freaking eyes does a spider have anyways???

Hey - but look! Web coming out it's butt! That's kind of cool!

And I guess it did kill a pesky fly... and everything has to eat... and it is I guess quite a pretty yellow... and it's just trying to make it's way in the world like the rest of us...

Nope...still gross........!

Much More Marvelous Macro

Lovin' my new Canon EF 100 mm/2.8 macro lens! (Ooops! I mean 'glass' - not lens - must talk the talk now!) So much to learn...so little time...

What Did I Do?

So here's what I did Friday afternoon: I bought myself an SLR camera! (All that anticipation...just for that!!?!) The brand new, hot off the press (March 2009) Canon Rebel T1i. Now, if you are anything like my hubby you are asking "What the heck do you need another camera for?" And my reply, "What the heck do you need another golf club for?". We agreed that I would never understand his golf fetishes and he will never understand my creative fetishes and so thus goes our marriage and we have been happily married for 20+ years.

I still remember my first camera somewhere around 1978 when I was 12 years old. A Kodak. You had to buy flashbulbs for it!!

Next came the Kodak disc for Christmas 1982. It took really crappy pictures - oh but what fun to use! I threw out the discs several years ago. They can't even be redeveloped anymore. I bought myself another camera in about 1984 but can't remember what it was. It may have been a 35mm Fujii. That lasted me until 1987 at which time I purchased my Canon Rebel. I loved that camera and I used it constantly until 1998 at which time I accidentally dropped it! I was very sad. A couple of 35 mm cameras in-between including a Samsung and a Minolta until I got my LUMIX FZ7 in 2006 and then my LUMIX TZ5 in 2008 and now my newest camera.

So now I have my throw in my purse camera (TZ5), my keep in the kitchen "look what the rabbits/stray cats/birds (insert animal name here) are doing" take a quick picture camera (FZ7) and my "let's do a full photo shoot" camera! Yea for me!

Now...next step...figuring out all the settings!

Anticipation

Yesterday afternoon
I did something that I've been thinking of doing for quite awhile
I've been tossing and turning the pros and cons for months now
Exploring every option
Trying to make up my mind
But I don't have time to tell you right now
I have to get ready
As we are leaving for the Rosetown Jamboree Parade shortly (woo...)
Watch for my post on Monday
And I will share with you what 'life changing' decision I made for myself

Can you guess what I've done?

Beliefs Challenged

Less than 600 years ago most people believed the world was flat.

Less than 100 years ago most people believed that women shouldn't vote.

Less than 30 years ago most people believed using lead paint was OK.

What beliefs do you have today?

He's Gone...

The 80's...so often it is remembered as the worst decade for hair and clothes. As a child of the 80's I must disagree. The mullet and white poofy silk sleeved long button up shirt...come on...that was a fashion statement! {all right...in my defence that's not actually a mullet I was sporting...the sides of my hair are up in combs...} But either way, absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. Yes...the picture above is me - office Christmas party 1984.

People seem to forget all the good things that signify the 80's as well - to mention a few: more women finding their way to the top of the ladder in the corporate world, the beginning of MTV, video games, home computers, Madonna, Michael J Fox and of course Michael Jackson. Which at that time, in my personal opinion, he was the persona of cool. Yes...he got a little messed up in the end, but for me, the 80's was his decade. Watching his funeral on TV for most of last night {yes Wayne...I'm still watching that...!!!}, I feel like a small piece of my young adulthood died with him. It's hard to watch public figures that you idolized getting older, sick, passing away. I finished reading Michael J Fox's "Always Looking Up" about his struggles with Parkinson's disease and again, felt a little bit of my youth slip away.

So - I will cherish my youth in the 80's and remember them with fond memories and look forward to the day when the 80's hair returns...for I have faith that it one day will...and mark my word...I shall be the first in line to stock up on extra hair spray...

And with that clarified, I say:

Good-bye Michael Jackson...thank you for the joy you brought me for many years....listening to your music and watching you dance...peace be with you...

It's Monday...

Even if a person enjoys their work...it is sometimes very hard to 'get happy' about Monday. Especially if they would much rather just crawl back into bed on a dreary, cool, Monday morning. Another cup of tea, a bit of "Ellen", a little "Bonnie Hunt" and then later this afternoon some "Oprah"...mmm...sigh...

Random Pictures from a Saturday Afternoon

One might be surprised at the photo opportunities one can find on a drive around rural Saskatchewan on a beautiful Saturday afternoon while sipping on a Timmy's Iced Cappuccino - camera in hand - hubby at the wheel...
