Stray Cat Watch - Day 21

It was a very good day for Stray Cat Watch!!!
First up, mid-afternoon, was Barney!
He enjoyed some food and many slurps of water.
He stayed for quite awhile.
He is very used to me and Banjo staring at him out the window!
He's not as thin as he used to be...I wonder why?
Later around supper time came all 3 kittens!
Obviously I still don't know how to take pictures
through windows when it is dark outside.
Dean, Jerry and the black kitten who I hadn't named yet.
Since I can't guess what the black kitty is; male or female,
I shall name him/her Sammy.
I was going to throw out some freezer burnt potatoes
but decided to cook them for the kitties.
Sammy was the only one brave enough to try my cooking!
The others sniffed at them and turned away.
Pretty picky for being stray kitties!! :-)
So it was a good day seeing all 3 kittens (the triplets)
and Barney, the older brother.
I haven't seen calico kitty (the mom) for awhile now.
Hopefully she will show up again one of these days!

Weekend To Do List

My BFF, our EVP of HR and myself went for brunch yesterday morning and we got talking about making a 'Bucket List' and "Why do people wait to do things.", etc. You know the kind of conversation I am talking about I am sure. Which has nothing to do with the picture above, it's just I had this nice picture of some Christmas Balls that I have in a glass bowl sitting on my living room floor and I wanted to share them! :-) I got to thinking I would indeed like to make a bucket list, which I will share once I have it figured out. In the list somewhere will be that I would love to live in a place like "Strawberry Lane" (see blog list at right)! I know from my blog it seems that I favour cats a bit (a bit?), but I really do love all animals. NOTE: I do not consider reptiles or arachnids in that category - though - if one needed help I wouldn't be opposed to finding someone else to help it!
But for now, I will start with my "To Do" list for today:
~ Get off computer by 6:30 am!!
~ Clean my house
~ Be out by 8 am to buy groceries before the crowds start
~ Finish a Christmas project I am working on
~ Bake treats & make a salad for my North HR Christmas party (Tuesday - road trip to the North!)
~ Finish a PowerPoint Presentation for my HR meeting on Tuesday
~ Watch our first must watch Christmas movie: The Grinch with Jim Carrey
Hope I get it all done!

Stray Cat Watch - Day 19

Dean was back last night!!! He was enjoying a bite of food and a slurp of water. I change the water every day, and of course it keeps freezing but at least if they hurry, they can get in a slurp before it freezes completely! The picture is bad but I had to be quick and since it was dark out, there is obviously my reflection in the glass. I will have to learn how to take better pictures through glass at night! But anyways, I now know that at least one little kitty is still around. I'm so happy!

Thought For The Day

"DREAM as if you'll live FOREVER,
LIVE as if you'll DIE TODAY." ~ unknown
Does my snowman look like he is standing in snow? He isn't. It's just my carpet changed with photoshop. I love photoshop!

Repeat Performance

I know this looks like the same pictures I posted the other day - but they're not. Look closely. I am starting to see a pattern. For 3 nights in a row now. At about 8:45 pm Banjo walks up to the dangley mouse, takes it off, drops it on the floor and then walks over to the Christmas tree to see what else he can do to make me get up and feed him! His portioned night feeding is usually at 9:30 pm, but he is always looking to get fed a bit earlier! What a cat!

Stray Cat Watch - Day 18

UPDATE: For the past 2 nights the stray cat bowl has stayed full. I wonder where those kitties are? I hope they are being taken care of and are nice and warm!

How Long...

How long do you hold onto things?
When is the time to throw something away?
Are you throwing out a memory?
Or is it just ‘stuff’ taking up space?
How do you tell the difference between the two?

This is a Christmas craft from when Kurtis was in playschool. A little mouse, sleeping in its bed, made out of a hazelnut and walnut shell, bits of felt, wool and cloth. I suspect, knowing my son, that the teacher made more of this mouse then he did. But he did bring it home, holding it in his tiny hand, displaying it so proudly. We used to put it out at Christmas time for a number of years, hanging it somewhere in the house. But it hasn’t made it out of the Christmas ‘odds & ends’ box for quite some time now, at least 8 years. How long should I hold onto it? I ask myself that every year. I think about it for a few moments, holding the wee mouse by his tail, precariously over the kitchen garbage. But I turn around and I put it back into the ‘odds & ends’ box. Perhaps I will keep it at least one more year....

Naughty Banjo

Well...let's see...what kind of trouble can I get into this evening. Hmmm...look at that stuffed dangley cat on this knob. Perhaps I will just take it off and drop it onto the floor. There...that's done. Now...let's see what the heck is inside this tree that I can get at......

One Month Til Christmas Eve

One month from today is Christmas Eve! One Month - can you believe it!?! I haven't even started Christmas shopping! Which really isn't a big deal when you have a very small family to buy for, which we do. So no stress here! :-) But if you have lots to buy for, and haven't yet started, you may want to think about 'getting at it"! You may however want to keep this thought at the top of your list:
"When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things give off the greatest glow of happiness." ~ Bob Hope
It's true isn't it? But sometimes we forget that fact. Have fun shopping!

Stray Cat Watch - Day 14

It was a good day for the "Stray Cat Watch"! First to show up in the early afternoon was the original orange kitty I had started feeding in the first place. Going with the "most orange cats are male" theory, I am going to call him Barney. He is not too scared. I could sit right at the garden windows and take pictures of him. Banjo could sit and look at him too without him running away. He ate some food and drank some water and then sauntered off.

Later in the afternoon came the two wee orange kittens. I am going to call the darker orange one Jerry and the lighter, creamy colored one Dean. (Dean is from "Stray Cat Watch - Day 13") Dean is braver then Jerry. Jerry ran away when Banjo and I got close to the window, but Dean stayed until every last crumb was gone!
Keep warm tonight kitties!

Stray Cat Watch - Day 13

Wayne was bugging me last night as there was a very non-stray looking cat eating out of my 'stray cat bowl' that sits on the deck in front of my garden doors. I didn't care. I had to refill it just knowing that sometimes those little stray kittens were going to be getting a meal. Sure enough, two orange kittens showed up this evening about 1/2 hour ago. The one ran away but this wee one sat and looked at me for a bit. He looks so sad. I wish I could catch him and find him a warm, loving home. Stuff like this depresses me. Why don't people take care of their pets. There wouldn't be any stray cats out on the streets trying to keep warm or so many cats and dogs in the SPCA. It makes me so sad.

Christmas Bears 2008

I've been awake since 2 am! It's a long story but it involves pinched nerves in my neck and right wrist. I thought it was the flu as I've had a headache for over a week and weakness through my neck and arm. But after a quick trip to the Dr on Wed. and Physio yesterday, I am hopefully on the mend. Too much typing, writing, and slouching. I sit at the computer this morning. But I am sitting properly and am doing my neck exercises while sitting here as well! I am very sore today. So...what should a gal do when she is up so early? It's too early to get into the bathtub and read, so I took some pictures!
These are all my Christmas Bears that I have sitting around my tree. They are there, along with the 'fake' Christmas Boxes, to help keep Banjo from under the tree! I have also sprinkled the spice "ginger" on the boxes and the bears as well in hopes that it keeps my cat away. Except for the one small Christmas Ball out in the middle of the living room Wednesday morning (!!!), it seems to be working well! They range from 2 ft to 4 in tall. My favorite one is the bear in the bottom, right hand corner. "Nick Nac" is his name. Kurtis got him for Christmas when he was little. He is a very cuddly bear. Enjoy It Upstairs Bears - in a short 35 days you will be back down to the craft room!

35 More Days Until Christmas!

These are my Christmas cats.
They sit at the top of my stairs
welcoming visitors to our home!

Brave Bunny

I am thinking this little bunny is brave hopping around my house
with all those stray cats about! Watch out bunny!

Banjo's 1st Christmas

A few people asked me today:
"How did you not get mad at your cat for wrecking the Christmas box?".
I said:
"I've had worse!"
Banjo's 1st Christmas - I came home from work to this greeting. I had to buy a new tree the next year!

Box Number 1

You are sooooo going to get it...
Darn are a bad kitty...
What am I going to do with you...
Well...I guess the damage is done... is just an empty ol' box...
Ahhh...aren't you cute...
Chewing up the box and spitting papers around...
That's too's totally mutilated...
Stay there...I will take some pictures...
Oops...where was I...oh right...Bad Kitty...!!!

Stray Cat Watch - Day 8

I actually had my camera in hand, taking pictures of my Christmas tree when out of the corner of my eye I caught these two little guys at the stray cat food bowl. The little orange one is not the original orange cat I started feeding. These wee ones are probably about 2 months old! The little black one doesn't have any white on him at all I don't think. Pure black - cute! The tiny orange guy was determined to get every last crumb out of that bowl. Spying a crumb on the deck, he was standing in the empty bowl and tipped the bowl trying to get at it. Banjo and I enjoyed watching them!
I hope it is not a cold winter for them!

Christmas Decorations 2008

I started at 7 am this morning and finished at about 2 pm this afternoon. I had white, silver and clear on my tree and as I sat and looked at it for awhile, I just had to add a bit of red to it - not much - just a tiny bit. I am pleased with the results. I was going to wrap the ribbon around the tree as usual but decided to twist it down for a change. I think I like it! The boxes underneath do not mean I am ahead of the game and have presents bought and wrapped. They are just empty boxes to put under the tree to keep Banjo from crawling under there! Bad kitty! My kitchen is done as well but those pictures are for another day!
Close up!
This is the Christmas Bear I bought for myself last Thursday. I sold a bunch of my Christmas cards and used the money to purchase her! I love her dress! She looks like she is ready for Christmas!

Stray Cat Watch - Day 7

We were sitting having lunch in the kitchen yesterday and who should come up to the deck for her lunch? Calico Kitty! Not orange kitty. Banjo watched intently. Not at the cat mind you...but at the food! He had just finished his small portioned lunch and was wondering how come this strange kitty got a whole bowl full! Poor Banjo! After she finished up, she went and sat on a rock in a patch of sunlight to clean up. Cute!

Bag Full of Banjo

Banjo in a BIG Christmas Bag!
SNUG as a BUG in a RUG!

Stray Cat Watch - Day 6

I got home last night and filled the stray cat bowl. I was thinking that it looked like there had been more then one little kitty up our steps since it had snowed all day and the tracks were therefore 'fresh'. After supper, looked out the garden window and there was a little calico cat eating at the bowl! Not an orange kitty! She was too quick for me though and I didn't get a picture. Hmmm...guess I should put more food out!

A Very Special Friday

First of all, it is not the dump of snow we have this morning that makes this Friday special!
Though it does add to the "Christmasy" feel starting to hang in the air.
It is a special Friday because my BFF turns 50 today!
I wasn't going to say her age but be damned - it's time women started embracing our ages and being proud! (Which is sooooo much easier for me to say because I am MUCH younger then her!!!) Ha ha!
But it really is about being 'young at heart' - no?
And you my dear Brigitte are the picture of youth!
From the love you have with your family,
To the true 'care taker' you are in your heart,
To the enthusiasm you bring with you in making the best out of a bad situation!
I was over at her house last night. Her decorations are all up. These pictures do not do her house justice - but it should give you an idea of the care she puts into her Christmas decorations.
I gave her the little bear in the corner for her birthday. We think she looks like she is ready to go to the Church Christmas Concert! Cute!
So here is to you my dear dear Brigitte! I hope you have a most glorious day. In your heart and your mind I know you are still 29 years old! Love you lots! (PS: Hope my German translation isn't so bad that I said something stupid like "My Underwear Has Holes" or something equally dumb. It's supposed to say "Good Health To You My Friend"...Does it? Let me know! Big Kiss! ;-()

Quick Christmas Cards

I was inspired this morning so I was down in my
craft room at 5:30 am, made these cards and was in the
bath tub 45 minutes later at 6:15 am!!

Stray Cat Watch - Day 3

There has been a stray, orange, tabby cat playing out in our back yard for the last few days. He is probably about six to eight months old. (Fact: Did you know that almost all orange cats are males and all calico cats are females? It's a fact!) He is very skinny! Of course, my perception of what a 'normal' size cat looks like has been distorted over the years! :-) Anyways, MUCH to Wayne's dismay, I have been feeding him the last few nights. Poor skinny kitty! I set some food out on the steps and by the morning, it is gone. This is food I was going to give to the SPCA anyways. (Remember when Banjo was sick and I bought all that high fat food?) Wayne thinks I am going to end up feeding every stray in town. I don't mind! How could this fresh food, along with the ambiance of my lighted back yard not attract some hungry kitties?? Banjo sits at the garden windows drooling at the food out on the step! Look how lucky you are Banjo - that kitty has no one to look after and love him! YOU are a VERY LUCKY kitty Banjo!!! Hopefully I can catch him at the dish to take a picture one of these nights! I will keep feeding him and watching!

Holiday Afternoon Position

OK Banjo...quit hogging the remote and move over. It's time for a holiday afternoon snoozy...(a.k.a. the Sunday afternoon position). Come on...move over and give me that remote. Fine...keep the remote but move over so I can lay down! Man you are lucky I love you. I will just scrunch up at the other end then if you are not going to move...just like in bed. You're always hogging 1/2 my end of the bed every night too. If you weren't so darn cute I would kick you off the bed. But you know I won't! I'll just move my cold feet over to Wayne's side! ;-)

Accomplishments of Yesterday

I was very ambitious yesterday! I didn't even have the TV on until I went to bed at 10 pm last night! What I accomplished:
~ Made banana choc chip muffins {it's only from a mix but I add real bananas, choc chips, flax and bran....but don't tell the boys about the flax and the bran!!}
~ Cleaned my oven {no...I don't have a self-cleaning oven...but how the heck does an oven get so dirty when all you cook is chicken fingers...!?!}
~ Cleaned my kitchen including washing the kitchen windows!
~ Coffeed with a friend who is retired and I haven't seen in a long time
~ Went shopping - needed to find little bottles to make a Christmas craft and I finally found some - in Peavy Mart if you can imagine!
~ Made 10 little bottles of Hot Cocoa Mix {milk chocolate, white chocolate, marshmallows}
~ Went out for supper - just me and my guy {and when I say "my guy" I mean Wayne!}
~ Went shopping for a couch - we've been looking for one for ages and as you pet lovers know - we must decorate around the cat fur and back cat claws {no front claws} - so no leather, don't like faux suede, and that doesn't leave much in the couch selection for the last few years
~ Looked at self-cleaning ovens....{I know all we need it for is to cook chicken fingers Wayne but I still want a nice one you know!}
~ And then of course what's a new stove without a new fridge {but we were laughing that we can buy a pair cheaper then what we bought our current set for almost 14 years ago at cost from when Wayne was in the furniture business!}
And that was the end of my day. I am hoping today I am as ambitious!

~ Watch some movies (I have not watched "The Sound of Music" for almost 2 months!!)
~ Have some snoozes (I do love my sleep!)
~ Do some blogging (Have to find some things to take pictures of!)
~ Go to Regina with my BFF (Still looking for the perfect Christmas tree balls for my accent color!)
~ Do some more crafting
~ Watch some more movies
~ Do some more snoozing

Ahhh......let the relaxing begin.....

Forecast For Snow

Snow is in the forecast for this weekend. Soon Banjo and I will have our Sunday morning entertainment! The two of us can sit for hours watching the birds on our deck eat the bird seed I put out for them. It's one of the few things I find ENJOYABLE about winter!

Happier Picture

My mother and my husband are wondering why I don't look very happy posing in the picture below with Colin. I told them I didn't like the dress I was wearing. Here is a better picture. I look MUCH happier.
(No Wayne....I don't think I am photoshop your head onto other people's bodies so that it looks like you are with someone you oogle doesn't mean you are obsessed...does it??!?)
I don't 'minimize' Colin's sites when Wayne walks into the computer room so I must be OK still! :-)

I've Been "Punched"

"kirkville" punched me! Which seems mean but in blogland, it's a nice thing! So here it goes:

5 things I was doing 10 years ago: (I can hardly remember what I was doing last week but here it goes!)

  • As Kurtis was only 7, I am sure I was experiencing all that guilt mothers have in working and leaving your child at the sitters. But I was lucky, I worked part-time until he was almost 6 years old.
  • I would have been busy renovating/decorating our house that we bought in August of 1998. And we are still doing both 10 years later! A never ending task. (Wow...15 mores years of mortgage payments...!!!)
  • I remember I was very busy taking my HR courses 10 years ago! All that studying! Groan!!!
  • A girlfriend from work and I were walking every morning, Mon to Fri, from 5:30 am until 6:30 am. We did that for over a year and only missed a few days. Then she moved away and we both stopped.
  • I didn't know it then, but every time my mom and dad came to visit us for the weekend or we went to their house, I was experiencing my last bit of precious time with my dad before he passed away.
5 things on my to do list for today:

  • Catch up on my magazine subscription (Style at Home) as I am 5 issues behind!
  • Buy some groceries.
  • Do some crafting.
  • Have a snooze.
  • Watch a movie.
5 snacks I love: (Only five?)

  • Chocolate
  • Popcorn
  • Chicken Wings
  • Salsa & Chips
  • Strawberries & Vanilla Yogurt
5 things I would do if I was a millionaire:

  • Very first - Wayne and I would quit our jobs
  • Buy a business for Kurtis to manage - EB Games
  • Give my BFF money so she could quit her job
  • Give our house to someone who really needs it and build ourselves a new one
  • Take our whole family to Disney World
5 places I have lived: (Besides Swift Current:)

  • Neepawa, Manitoba
  • Edmonton, Alberta
  • Rosetown, Saskatchewan
  • Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
  • Brandon, Manitoba
5 jobs I have had:

  • Waitress - 4 years during high school at the Rosetown Gulf Coffee Shop - I still miss their fries and gravy! Mmmmm....
  • Chamber Maid - lasted 1 week before I decided to get myself to school!
  • I started in the credit union system in April of 1984 (Prairie Centre, Westoba, Beautiful Plains, Western/Southwest/Innovation) and have been everything from: teller, EDP coordinator, loans steno, file clerk, accounting clerk, administration clerk, trainer, recruiter
5 people I punch:

  • All my blog friends that I know have been punched so I punch all the people I love that are reading my blog!
5 favorite pictures of myself: (When you are always the photographer it is hard to find any pictures of yourself let alone your favorites!)

Hmmmm...I'm thinking it was OBVIOUS I was going to have chubbiness with me my whole life! :-)

I think my brother was looking at me wondering how he could get back at me for being so
(Had the "back combing" thing happening hey mom?)

Me and my dad.

It's only a "Wal-mart" picture but I still like it. Wayne's still got a bit of dark hair!

I'm not sure what I was thinking wearing that dress. It's not really my style or color...(wink wink)
